A Letter from Mrs. Leebrick

October 3, 2026

Dear WCA Families,

It is officially October, and while I know many of you are beginning to see pumpkins, changing leaves, and all the signs of fall, around WCA, I am seeing spots! 🐾

Happy 101 Dalmatians Month to our Lower School students!

We are so excited to invite our WCA families to a tail-wagging adventure as our Lower School students bring 101 Dalmatians to life on Friday, October 30th at 5:00 p.m. Bring the whole family and join us for a fun-filled performance packed with lovable pups, laughter, excitement, and plenty of spots! We cannot wait to see our students shine on stage.

But as fun as October is, this month also gives us an opportunity to slow down and notice the ways God is moving in the life of our school.

This week alone, I have watched our students celebrate their high school peers throughout Homecoming Week. I have listened to students talk about what it means to prepare their hearts. I have watched them engage in chapel as we explored what it means for our lives to be made new when we make the decision to follow Christ. And in each of these moments, I am reminded that what happens at WCA is about so much more than academics, activities, or even the memories we create together.

We are preparing hearts.

We are helping students understand that their faith is not simply something they learn about at school, but something that shapes the way they live, love, serve, lead, and respond to the world around them.

October is a beautiful month to reflect on that. As the seasons begin to change around us, we are reminded that God is always at work, even when we cannot immediately see what He is doing. Seeds are growing. Hearts are being shaped. Students are discovering who God created them to be.

And sometimes, that growth looks like a kindergartener learning to love a new friend, a middle school student stepping into leadership, a high school student being celebrated by younger peers, or an entire school community gathering together in worship.

God is moving at WCA, and it is a privilege to witness it.

As we enter this new month, I hope you will join me in praying for our students, that their hearts would continue to be prepared, that their faith would continue to grow, and that they would recognize God's presence in both the big moments and the small ones.

And, of course, I hope you'll mark your calendars for October 30th and come celebrate with us as our Lower School students take the stage!

Until then, keep an eye out for those spots. 🐾

With gratitude,

Alexus Leebrick, M.Ed.

Tip of the Week:

Explain Your Answer

When your child solves a math problem, try asking questions like, “How did you figure that out?” or “Can you solve it another way” or “How do you know that makes sense?”

When children put their mathematical thinking into words, they aren't just showing us what they know. They're helping their brains understand and remember it more deeply.

Being able to explain your thinking is much more than a communication skill. It actually strengthens learning. For elementary students, some of the biggest benefits are:

  • Deepens understanding: Explaining why an answer works requires the brain to make connections between ideas instead of simply memorizing a procedure.
  • Strengthens memory: Putting thinking into words helps organize information, which can make it easier to remember and retrieve later.
  • Reveals misunderstandings: A child may arrive at the correct answer without fully understanding the concept. Explaining their reasoning can uncover gaps that would otherwise go unnoticed.
  • Builds math vocabulary: Regularly describing their reasoning gives children practice using math words accurately.

Coach's Notes

It was a great week of competition at WCA! Our MS Girls Volleyball team claimed the title of conference tournament runner-up, our MS Boys Soccer team earned the conference championship, our Varsity Volleyball team went 2-0 against some stout competition, our cross country teams competed at a high level at the conference championship, our Varsity Soccer team continued to show growth, and our 8th–11th grade ladies battled it out in our first-ever powder puff game. What a week!

Our fall season comes to an end on Tuesday. You’ll have your last opportunity to see our Varsity Volleyball team at home as they look to finish the season on a 5-game win streak, while our Varsity Soccer team travels to Woodlawn for their final game of the season.

Be sure to come out and support our athletes in their last games of the season!
