Originally built in 1968, the Belmont Plaza Pool closed in 2013 due to seismic concerns, and a temporary pool was installed while the City worked toward construction of a new permanent facility. That vision is now becoming a reality. Construction of the new Belmont Plaza Pool is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2028.

10th Street Greenbelt Walking Path Project Community Meeting

This week, Public Works hosted a community meeting to present the final proposed design for the 10th Street Greenbelt. The project will include walking paths, native landscaping, and nature-based seating areas shaped by community input gathered throughout the planning process.

A special thank you to the Greenbelt Heights Neighborhood Association for their years of advocacy and partnership in helping move this project forward.

Groundbreaking of Thrive at Fountain by Linc Housing

This week, Linc Housing and the City of Long Beach hosted a groundbreaking for a new 73-unit affordable housing development in District 3. The project is designed to serve families and individuals with disabilities, providing much-needed stable housing in our community.

Thank you to Linc Housing and City staff for working closely with my office and the neighborhood to shape a project that fits within the community. In 2027, we look forward to welcoming 73 families into their new homes.

Community Crisis Response Dashboard

In July 2023, the City launched the Community Crisis Response (CCR) Team in West Long Beach. The non-law enforcement team, made up of a Crisis Intervention Specialist, Public Health Nurse, and Peer Navigator, responds to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. In July 2025, the program expanded citywide.

Since its launch, the CCR Team has been dispatched 2,287 times, with 62% of calls resolved on scene.

The CCR Team can be dispatched through the non-emergency line at (562) 435-6711, or through 911 in an emergency. The team currently operates from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and continues to expand and refine its services. I encourage you to learn more about the team and explore its calls-for-service dashboard.

Later this summer, City staff are expected to return with a CORE Strategy Framework, a severity-based approach for responding to mental health and substance use-related calls using all available tools. Stay tuned for updates.
