PASTORAL CARE

How often have you found yourself feeling lonely especially when ill or separated from the folks you love due to any situation that has left you alone? Our world today is becoming more difficult to feel connected when we are disconnected due to illness and separation. As folks still feel uncomfortable getting out and participating in the many different things shared with others due to the pandemic or just not feeling comfortable being around crowds and unfamiliar environments, we experience a loss of fellowship. Even with the technologies available to us, without personal contact, we can still feel isolated. Providing pastoral care, whether associated with a church, or just as part of our Christian obligation to love each other, is so important as we consider our actions of faith and commitment to serve Christ. Pastoral Care from Resurrection is serious ministry, and I am proud of all our prayer warriors and those who call, write cards, take communion to shut-ins and those who plan a pastoral visit just to have conversation, share a meal or treat and remind all who are visited that they are missed, prayed and cared for. As a pastor, I see, perhaps my most important role to be with those who are lonely, suffering and infirm. There really is no greater Christian ministry. For as we show our love and compassion for others we put on the Face of Christ.

The Gospel of Matthew reminds of the significance of caring for each other:

The Sheep and the Goats: Matthew 25: 31-46
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.
32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34“ Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37“ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40“ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41“ Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44“ They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45“ He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46“ Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

I invite you to formally join any of the hospitality and pastoral ministries offered through our parish. In the narthex is a listing of small group ministries and their associated group leaders. Finding even just one group to participate with can change your life and the lives of those you touch. God’s blessings to our ministry teams. You are being Christ to the community!
Finding Faith Through Fiction Book Club
TUESDAY, AUGUST 16 AT 1:00 PM

Everyone welcome! Please join us at the church at Tuesday, August 16 at 1:00 pm to discuss The Stranger in the Life Boat by Mitch Albom.

#1 New York Times Bestseller
What would happen if we called on God for help and God actually appeared? In Mitch Albom’s profound new novel of hope and faith, a group of shipwrecked passengers pull a strange man from the sea. He claims to be “the Lord.” And he says he can only save them if they all believe in him. A fast-paced, compelling novel that makes you ponder your deepest beliefs, The Stranger in the Lifeboat suggests that answers to our prayers may be found where we least expect them.
