FMCSA suspends USDOT deactivations as Motus issues mount for carriers

Overdrive- Federal regulators have temporarily paused the inactivation of USDOT numbers for carriers lagging behind on their mandatory biennial updates. The move came as a result of issues motor carriers are facing since the launch of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s new registration platform, Motus.

DOT rolls back redundant regulations for truck drivers

Commercial Carriers Journal-The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced a trio of regulatory rollbacks aimed at cutting red tape for commercial drivers, eliminating decades-old requirements made redundant in the digital age, including:

No more self-reporting out-of-state tickets
Ditch the physical ELD manual
No more universal state-level paperwork

Traffic enforcement blitz starts July 12

Overdrive- This year’s Operation Safe Driver Week is scheduled for July 12-18, during which both commercial and passenger vehicle drivers seen driving in violation of rules will be pulled over by law enforcement personnel and issued a warning or ticket/citation.

Bill takes aim at foreign-based ELD tampering

Commercial Carriers Journal- Legislation has been introduced that closes a loophole that allows foreign-based dispatchers to manipulate Electronic Logging Device records used to track drivers’ hours of service.

Michigan lawmakers join push to cut cargo theft

Detroit News- Congress is working toward a measure to boost law enforcement efforts against cargo theft and other retail crimes — issues of particular importance to states like Michigan that serve as supply chain hubs with busy international crossings.

The Trucker- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is removing a TRUCKSTAFF ELD from its list of registered devices.

DOT to launch visibility dashboard to aid trucking, supply chain networks

Trucking Dive- The Department of Transportation plans to launch the American Supply Chain Sovereignty Initiative to drive faster cargo processing, lower logistics costs and bolster the U.S. workforce.
