Welcome to Spring!

As the UME office gears up for our Spring and Summer programming leading to the Cecil County Fair and beyond, we have two major events that will be impacting the office. In the next two months (or so, final date not determined yet) we will be moving from the Cecil Administration building to office space next to the Sheriff’s Office and the Emergency Operations Center just up the street. McCrone currently occupies the space at 107 Chesapeake Blvd., Suite #104, Elkton. We are currently in the process of prepping and packing the office for the move.

Secondly, our Administrative Assistant II, Donna Witkowski, has decided to retire. Her last day is March 31st. Donna has worked with UME-Cecil since July 1, 2014, and has been a stable fixture in our office since then. Donna largely supported the Environment and Natural Resources - Master Gardener, Agriculture, and Family & Consumer Sciences programs in our office. She also published our monthly Cecil County Extension Office and Cecil County Agriculture E-newsletters, and managed our Cecil County Extension website and Cecil County Extension Agriculture Facebook page. We appreciate the many years of dedicated service focused on making our office serve the public better through her daily behind the scenes support and assistance. We will miss you!

We will be hiring to fill Donna’s position as an annual contract position in the near future, so watch this website: https://umd.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UMCP

( simple search for “Cecil” would pull the position up while active).

Food, Nutrition & Wellness

University of Maryland Extension Curates Comprehensive Set of Food Assistance Resources for Marylanders

Food security is under threat with the current debates surrounding SNAP benefits and rising grocery prices. University of Maryland Extension (UME) is dedicated to assisting Maryland’s communities in accessing healthy food close to home, which is why UME has collected a set of state and local resources for organizations and the public to find food relief, including government assistance, pantries, donation information, and tutorials regarding how to use available ingredients in safe meal preparation.

“One of our main priorities in Extension is maintaining a resilient food system that helps Marylanders access safe, nutritious foods for themselves and their families,” said Dr. Jinhee Kim, Associate Dean of UME. “We strive to serve the needs of all of our communities, with faculty and staff available in every county to help keep our people healthy.”

Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) helps young families and youth with limited resources—those most at risk to suffer from hunger, food insecurity and the inability to connect with available support systems.
