UC and the Impacts of Immigration + Ranking World's Best Research Universities
A political action committee supporting the University of California
Greetings,
Today's newsletter highlights recent research from UC Merced and the Bay Area Council Economic Institute on the impacts of undocumented labor and mass deportations to California's economy.
According to the June 2025 study, mass deportations of California's undocumented labor would create a $275 billion hole in the state's economy, crippling a wide range of industries including agriculture and hospitality. Approximately 1.5 million undocumented residents make up 8% of our state's workforce. Furthermore, mass deportations would disrupt countless small businesses and result in $23 billion in lost tax revenue.
p.s. All 10 UC campuses are among the best universities in the world in research impact, with 8 among the top 25 public universities in the nation (U.S. News & World Report).
