Alfalfa now has its World Day

A milestone driven to boost the crop's future

Saturday, May 23, 2026, went down in history as the day "the queen of forages" was definitively crowned. Through a coordinated effort by TodoAlfalfa and SomosAlfalfa, this date was officially established as World Alfalfa Day, with the objective of providing this strategic crop with its well-deserved recognition.

The initiative's first major goal – working seamlessly with the associations, institutions and companies that joined – was largely surpassed. Excellent interaction was achieved, the historical and agronomic reasons for choosing the date were clearly communicated and above all, the agricultural community as a whole has embraced this proposal as its own.

Looking ahead, the commitment is to continue promoting actions to reach the 2027 World Alfalfa Day with even stronger coordination and direct communication. Therefore, TodoAlfalfa and SomosAlfalfa will continue working side by side with the pioneering organizations of this project, extending the invitation to all remaining entities to join in boosting the crop globally.

Within this framework, TodoAlfalfa and SomosAlfalfa extend its gratitude to Daniel Basigalup for his work in strengthening support for this initiative among prestigious institutions such as the National Alfalfa and Forage Alliance (NAFA) and the World Alfalfa Congress organization. They trust that these entities will be fundamental pieces in the upcoming activities of this initiative.

To provide a formal framework for this growth, TodoAlfalfa and SomosAlfalfa will promote the creation of an organizing committee. This space will be coordinated by a representative of its team and will feature a member from each adhering institution in order to design joint actions that strengthen and drive this celebration forward over time.

Likewise, they will propose to the World Alfalfa Congress organization that they evaluate the possibility of scheduling their next edition around May 23. The goal is to leverage the date synergistically, ensuring that the Congress and World Alfalfa Day mutually enhance each other as a must-attend global event.

In parallel, the winning photographs of the "Portraits of the Queen" (Retratos de la Reina) contest will be announced shortly. Furthermore, over the coming months, new dynamics will be promoted, such as the "Grand Finale" (Broche de Oro) and "Your Role Model Behind the Bale" (Tu referente detrás del fardo) proposals, to keep the active participation of the entire agricultural community going.

Finally, TodoAlfalfa and SomosAlfalfa urge the entire sector to adopt and use the official World Alfalfa Day logo in their planned activities and promotional materials, as well as to brainstorm joint actions that can be developed in each country to continue elevating the alfafla crop's status.
