'Tis the season of music and celebration, friends —
Seriously, if you don't think about music in December I'm pretty sure you're not conscious. Between all the year-end "tops" lists, the "wraps," the caroling, the holiday concerts, the endless flood of festive tuneage in every genre ever conceived by humankind in the history of the universe on every stream and station far and wide, the grocery store and elevator music, and the husky howling to the tune of Carol of the Bells, you simply can't miss out on exposure to music of some kind during this chilly, cheerful season.
And speaking of the season of celebratory merriment, I suppose I'd better tell you about all the special holiday stuff NCPR is bringing you on our various platforms and channels before the year is over (in case you're not aware, it's almost over). So here are some links to some things that you will find will bring you holiday happiness on NCPR:
Let's start with the big one — the NEARLY 75 HOURS(!) of special holiday programs we'll be airing between now and Jan 1. No kidding. Don't believe me? Add it up yourself (there could even be more than that, I'm not very good at maths). A person could get seriously festive on that many hours of holiday hooch. Can you say, Radio Bob’s Radio New Year’s Eve Party? I knew that you could.
And then there are the NCPR top-tens. Prefer to find them all in one, easy-to-share-with-as-many-music-lovers-as-you-can place? Here's the only year end list you need! NCPR music hosts share their favorite songs of 2024.
In the case of DJ to the Stars and host of The Beat Authority, David Sommerstein, it's not a top ten. It's a top - like - 25 or so. Seriously, David couldn't help himself this year. This guy is so good at finding the best music in the world that he needed two (count 'em with me: one, two) posts to get his favorites of 2024 all online at once. And one of those was overstuffed! Feast on his Beat Authority Best for 2024, and then take five more even bester-ish if you're still hungry after that huge meal.
Oh hey — you love indie music and you love The Dean's List, right? You and Doyle Dean both. He loves it so much in fact, that he got his "tops" list in early this year (December 9th!). But don't fret — the nice thing about the interwebs is there's no expiration date on anything. So here it is, Doyle's Dean's List Best for 2024, cured to indie perfection.
In contrast, Sarah Scafidi-McGuire says she proudly procrastinated the production of her list, so it's super fresh and hot out of the oven — just today!
