FCC Adopts Georouting as Part of 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has unanimously approved new rules requiring all wireless carriers to implement georouting for calls to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This change will allow calls to be routed based on the caller's location rather than their phone's area code, enabling a more localized response and potentially improving access to critical local resources13. The new georouting mandate aims to strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of the 988 Lifeline in providing support to individuals in crisis.
