March 2025 NEWSLETTER

Dear CDOC Community,

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer in the United States for men and women combined, but it's highly preventable with screening. For more information, read Colorectal Cancer Screening recommendations from ACS and U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). Of particular note is the worldwide increase in early onset colorectal cancer rates; thus, it is critical that screening start at the recommended age of 45 years old.

Additionally, the California Colorectal Cancer Coalition (C4) is hosting the annual Screen Your Gut Save Your Butt 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, March 29th in San Diego. Funds will be used for the C4 Community Grants Program that aims to increase screening to prevent colorectal cancer development and detect existing cancers earlier.

Lastly, the CCCP 2023-2024 Program Evaluation Report is now available on the CDOC website! Each year, California’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (CCCP) and the California Dialogue on Cancer (CDOC) conducts a comprehensive evaluation to monitor progress and assess outcome measures of the CCCP. Look out for a webinar this spring that will showcase the Comp Cancer Program Evaluation Report Findings.

Sincerely,
