Once Waukegan’s original Main Street, Genesee Street has long been a place where the community comes together. Today, it continues that legacy as the home of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County’s flagship Genesee Site, serving as a safe, welcoming space for kids and families every day.

Celebrating Community at the BGCLC Winter Carnival!

Our Winter Carnival was an evening full of fun, laughter, and community! Thanks to the generosity of Operation Warm and Liberty Automotive, over 500 coats were given to Club kids and their families. Teens from North Chicago High School ran 10 game stations, earning volunteer hours while helping families enjoy the day.

Our teens from North Chicago High School ran 10 interactive game stations, earning volunteer hours while guiding families through games and activities, giving them a chance to develop leadership skills while supporting the event.

Families shared a hearty, homestyle dinner donated by Sysco and a delicious cupcake dessert. Parents also had a chance to win gift cards in raffles, with extra tickets for joining in the games with their kids.

On top of all the fun, seven local organizations set up resource tables, giving families access to helpful services and information. A special thank you to our friends at Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep, DCFS, Equal Hope, Arden Shores, Waukegan Park District,

Reading Power, Inc., and Rosalind Franklin University.

What Our Families Are Telling Us!

In December 2025, we invited parents and caregivers of youth attending our after-school programs to share their feedback through our most recent Parent Caregiver Survey. Participation increased significantly compared to our May 2025 survey. Most respondents were highly engaged families - 93% have children who attend the Club three or more days each week.

This feedback underscores the impact of our work: children feel safe, families feel connected, and our programs are making a meaningful difference. We are grateful to our families for trusting us and to our supporters for making this work possible - together, you are an essential part of the Club’s success.

Building Bikes and Smiles for Our Youth!

The Boys & Girls Club of Lake County was excited to received 26 bicycles generously assembled by the Global Electronics Association in partnership with TeamBonding. Employees from all over the United States worked together in teams, trading laptops for wrenches, teamwork, and collaboration, carefully assembling each bike together so it would be ready for a child to enjoy.

A huge thank you to TeamBonding and the Global Electronics Association for their time, effort, and generosity. Seeing a group come together, combining teamwork and effort to create something meaningful, reminds us that building a stronger community isn’t just about gifts - it’s about coming together to make a real difference in the lives of the children we serve.

This parent’s words perfectly capture the impact of our Program Managers! They are more than coordinators - they are mentors, role models, and champions for every child who walks through the Club’s doors. From the moment kids arrive, they plan and lead programs that help them build skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

They notice when a child needs extra support, celebrate successes big and small, and make sure every activity is safe, fun, and meaningful. They create safe, engaging spaces where kids can learn, grow, and have fun. From helping with homework to mentoring and guiding activities, our staff goes above and beyond to ensure children thrive - and they give parents the peace of mind to focus on work or simply enjoy time with their families.

We are so grateful to our Program Managers for their dedication, care, and hard work. They are the heart of the Club, turning programs into meaningful experiences that truly change lives.
