AAHOA Stands with National Coalition Urging Congress to Pass the Bipartisan American Franchise Act

AAHOA joined more than 100 business, advocacy, and diversity organizations in signing a coalition letter led by the International Franchise Association (IFA). The letter calls on Congress to support the American Franchise Act, bipartisan legislation aimed at providing long-term clarity to the joint-employer standard. The standard has long been marked by shifting interpretations across administrations, which created uncertainty, increased risk, and slowed growth.

What Does the Future Hold?

Few groups have their fingers more firmly on the pulse of hospitality than the AAHOA Board of Directors. In the December issue of Today's Hotelier magazine, members of the Board shared their perspectives on the state of hospitality today – what’s changing, what’s challenging, and what’s inspiring them as they look ahead. Their answers offer a revealing snapshot of where the industry is headed in 2026 and beyond.

IN THE MARKET

U.S. RevPAR -3.7% y/y last week; Group occupancy really taking it on the chin as result of government shutdown

As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was -3.7% y/y for the week ending 12/6/2025, per STR/ CoStar, below the prior week's result of -0.7% y/y and below the trailing 10-week average of -1.1% y/y. Factors impacting last week's lodging results include: 1) continued bifurcation in results by chain scale (11 point variance between Luxury and Economy chain scale RevPAR -- below last week's 16 points but still overall very high), 2) very weak Group occupancy, -9% y/y and most impactful to the Upper Upscale segment, which we believe due to air travel concerns stemming from the government shutdown, 3) difficult hurricane y/y comps, and 4) tough y/y comps following last year's quickly decided election. Upscale RevPAR: -4.0% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: -3.8% y/y."
