Christmas Poinsettias

We are blessed by the added beauty of the Christmas Poinsettias in the sanctuary this Christmas season. Thank you to each of you who contributed flowers to remember or honor beloved family and friends or gave them to the Glory of God.

Poinsettias are a part of the Christmas season, churches often arrange them in tree-like structures around the altar or nativity, symbolizing the Star of Bethlehem, Christ's blood (red) or purity (white). These displays use special stands or racks to create stunning focal points, with individual plants often dedicated in memory of loved ones, linking the community and celebrating the Christmas story.

Remember Your Baptism Sunday

Sunday, January 4, all 3 Services

The first Sunday of January (and each January going forward), we will celebrate everyone's Baptism with a recommitment and reaffirmation. This service is part of the UMC's Book of Worship. Please email your Baptism pictures if available to be included in the service. Click here for an article noting what you might experience.

On Sunday, we were delighted to welcome 3 new members at 11:11. We thank the grace of God that you have chosen to join our community at DUMC. We hope that your time with us offers you the chance to explore and deepen your faith and enrich the love you have for the Lord. 11:11 video

The Christmas Cookie Walk - Thank you!

Thank you to all of the bakers and buyers at our Cookie Walk, Sunday December 14. A delightful assortment of cookies filled our tables. A bit of snow added to the Christmas spirit and fun! A special thanks to the crew of tireless elves: Michael, Lynne, Anne, and Sue. Your purchases support the Hospitality Committee for events throughout the year. Thank you!

Carson-Simpson Farm Fire Circle Project Update and Thank you!

Have you ever signed up for something and then realized you were in way over your head? The missions committee decided to use the Peach Festival money to build a fire circle for Carson Simpsons Farms, the Methodist Camp in Hatboro…and do the work ourselves. The more I learned about what was needed, the more I realized we didn’t have enough money or skills.

Our DUMC member, Rick Wood of Lynnwood Services LLC, stepped in to save the day! Not only did Rick design the project, but he recruited Phil McCusker of Quality Landscape to do the work at a reduced cost. They also got the paver materials donated by Cambridge Pavers. Rick connected with the camp director and managed the project. As you can see, the result is awesome.

We will be building some benches for the fire circle over the winter. Rick gave me a design, so I think we can handle that.

Thank You Rick!

Pastor's Christmas Letter

Dear DUMC Family and Friends,

In the classic movie “It’s a Wonderful Life,” Clarence Odbody, a kind, slightly befuddled “angel second class” appears at just the right time as a despairing George Bailey is about to take his own life. Clarence’s timing was just right. And his mission was to show George how valuable his life truly was by revealing what the world would have been like without him, ultimately helping George realize the profound positive impact he's had on everyone. He succeeds in his mission and earns his “angel wings.”

Announcing The New DUMC Covenant

Biblical Covenants are agreements between two entities that shape their relationship. Each promises to act a certain way (promises agreed upon by the other), with the requirement that the other keep their promise(s).

DUMC has just affirmed a Covenant that promises those who read it, especially people seeking to know the love of Christ, that our church will be an inclusive faith community. It promises that “we welcome all individuals, including - but not limited to - people of any race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, nationality, and background.”

All that we expect from the reader is that they accept us as we are – sin-stained-grace-saved, diverse, fellow-pilgrims on this journey called discipleship.

Please take the time to read our Covenant.

Lay Leader Insights:

BLUE CHRISTMAS

Everyone around us is excited for Christmas, right? Not necessarily. For some, the holidays bring up memories of happier times when the whole family gathered around the table. For others, there are empty chairs, missing members, waning traditions, and quiet.

These experiences remind us that the story of Christmas itself is no stranger to darkness—Jesus was born into a world of oppression and fear. Mary did not have her family around when Jesus was born. The new family had to flee to Egypt to avoid King Herod's wrath.

For many, Blue Christmas is marked on December 21st, the day with the longest night of the year. This night offers an opportunity for those dealing with grief and loss in the lead-up to Christmas to light a candle in memory of their loved ones and mourn with the support of their religious community.

December Mission of the Month:

CSSH CODE BLUE

Our mission for the month of December is the Coalition to Shelter and Support the Homeless (CSSH). CSSH is the nonprofit that runs Code Blue for Central Bucks. Code Blue is a program that offers overnight shelter, dinner, breakfast, and a bag lunch for the homeless in our area. The shelter is open when the temperature is below 28 degrees. Code Blue runs from December to March, with a different church hosting each month. CSSH also holds a monthly meal throughout the year for the homeless in our community. The CSSH opened the doors for 85 nights during the 2024/2025 season and provided shelter to 100 different individuals, representing a 37% increase from the previous year - this is impactful!

December 16 Blood Drive

Thank you to all who helped make the December 16 blood drive a success. Through your generosity, the Red Cross was able to collect 42 life-saving pints of blood (their goal was 45), including 9 power red donations (these count as 2 donations each). 44 donors registered, with 5 deferrals (donors who were not eligible to donate at the time for their own safety and that of the recipients). Since May of 2020, DUMC has collected 1,770 donations = 5,313 lives saved.

DUMC will host its next blood drive on

Tuesday, February 10 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm.

Thank you again for your continued support in this life-saving mission!

Tent and Sleeping Bag Collection

Please consider donating tents and sleeping bags to The Synergy Project (Bucks County). Drop off is at Doylestown United Methodist Church (the 2nd coat closet in the lobby). Gift cards to supermarkets, Wawa, and gas cards, as well as anything food-related would also be appreciated. Young kids are not being placed in tents and sleeping bags, but there is a waitlist at the shelter and for other things needed. Please reach out to Robert “Woody” Wood at (215) 990-3962 if you are able to help or would like to learn more about other ways to get involved. Woody is the Street Outreach Coordinator for The Synergy Project Bucks County, which is a Valley Youth House Street Outreach Program.

Youth Christmas Party Recap

This past Sunday, the DUMC youth group had its annual Christmas party. 24 young people attended. We had a great night full of games, laughter, and, of course, food. We even had a festive competition for best outfit! It was an awesome ending to a great semester of ministry. I am so thankful for the support of the students, parents, and leaders who worked hard to make this event successful. We are so thankful for how our church supports our young people and makes these events possible. We can't wait to continue to grow in community with one another in 2026!

Blessings,

Lenae
