Message from the Chair
It is with great pleasure and sincere appreciation that the Board of Directors of the Canadian Heritage Arts Society wishes to honour Jim for his dedication and service to the Canadian College of Performing Arts, in presenting him with the recently created Faculty Leadership Award. Jim’s years of service as a faculty member, his support of CCPA graduates through Story Theatre Company, and his guidance as Chair of the Theatre Department have clearly demonstrated his commitment to the College’s mission.

Barbara Greeniaus
Chair, The Canadian Heritage Arts Society

Message from Jim
After over twenty years of starting off the year with the Canadian College of Performing Arts, with the faculty, and with the students, I am, regrettably, not amongst you this year.

Let me say that I have found enormous pleasure in working at CCPA and watching its evolution. I’ve enjoyed the camaraderie of the faculty, the fun of working with the students and seeing their professional achievements, as well as being a part of the productions produced over the past 20 plus years. I have always felt proud to be part of the “valued faculty” often mentioned in speeches and gatherings, and had no hesitation in using my contacts in Victoria’s arts community to further the reputation of the College.

I will always admire the energy, the drive and the talent of the students that I have had a hand in training, and truly appreciate the more than fifty grads that I have hired for the Story Theatre Company, for various film projects, and for several Fringe productions. I will continue to look at these graduates first as I continue my work in the arts.

One of the most exciting moments for me is when the student becomes a colleague.
I would like to thank the Canadian College of Performing Arts for this inaugural Faculty Leadership Award and hope that my association with the school continues well into the future.

Sincerely,
James K. Leard B.F.A., M.A.
