Let mutual affection continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Last Sunday we were reminded of the fifth mark of a Methodist: loving others. Christian love is not merely a feeling or an affection that comes and goes with our emotions. Rather, it is a choice rooted in the very nature of God. Because God is love, and because we are invited into the life and character of God through Christ, we are called to love others as God loves us. This kind of love extends beyond those who are easy to love. It reaches toward those who disappoint us, disagree with us, or require more grace than we feel prepared to give. As followers of Christ, we are called not simply to believe in love, but to participate in it through our words, actions, and relationships. In doing so, we become visible expressions of God's love in the world.

This week, we invite you to practice intentional prayer for someone you find difficult to love. Each day, lift that person to God by name. Ask God to bless them, guide them, and work in their life according to God's will. Resist the temptation to pray for them to change; instead, entrust them to God's care. Then, if possible, take one concrete step of love—a kind word, a note of encouragement, an act of mercy, or simply refusing to speak negatively about them. As you practice this discipline, pay attention to how God may be shaping your own heart. Christian love becomes real when it moves beyond feeling and takes form in action.
