🌟 Community Impact 🌟

LA HUB Coalition

As a member of LA HUB, we were honored to host the group this month at our Gary M. Thomas Clubhouse. The LA HUB Coalition believes that violence prevention is a collective responsibility & we seek to prevent violence by effectively networking in a community-building environment, urgently addressing the needs of our communities through community education, and strongly supporting our community through empowerment and advocacy.

Children's Business Fair

BCGWV and High school members volunteered their time at the Children's Business Fair. We helped set up and register the families and we also had a booth to further connect with the community.

The Children's Business Fair gave the kids the opportunity to:

1.   Make something with their own hands

2.   Sell it (safely)

3.   Experience the freedom (and responsibility) of having a little extra spending money as a reward

Thank you Marina for allowing us to be part of such an amazing event!

🌟 Board Member Highlight 🌟

We are SO proud to share with you the nomination of Martin M. Cooper, a past Board Chair, currently Chair Emeritus, and a long-time supporter of the organization, for the Los Angeles Business Journal's 2023 Nonprofit & Corporate Citizenship Awards. The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Biltmore Hotel.

This nomination is a well-deserved recognition of his outstanding contributions to Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley and the community at large. BGCWV wishes him the best of luck at the awards ceremony. 👏

🌟 Volunteer Highlight 🌟

Thank you Institute of Applied Behavior!

Our Clubhouse Director, Angel, works directly with our volunteers from Institute of Applied Behavior. “We are so thankful that Zach and Edna join us on Tuesday and Friday mornings to assist with cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing the program spaces for the members. Maria (far left) does a fantastic job with instructing them and ensuring that they have the tools necessary to get the job done!”

March Club Highlights

Check out this past month's happenings:

Passionate Work Program

Members have been exposed to several industries through our Passionate Work program. Last month, they got to meet with Breegan Jane, who is a TV host, interior designer, entrepreneur and philanthropist in Los Angeles. They learned so much from all of her success and even how to envision their own futures in the entertainment business and as entrepreneurs.

St Patrick's Day

Our members participated in a number of fun activities during St. Patrick’s Day. Some of which included a 4 leaf clover contest using modeling clay, 4 sided dodgeball, and Code-Fu. Everyone that was wearing green was entered in a raffle for the chance to win a bike!

Leadership

One of our members, Rizzy, loves helping coach Anna with our walking program at New Academy Elementary school. Rizzy is always offering to assist staff with our kindergarten and first grade members and continues to be a leader; a great example of what it means to be a Club kid.

Membership Outreach

This month, Blythe hosted a neon Glow Party to celebrate being a BGCWV member! Our members spread awareness of the programs offered at the Club amongst students that attend Blythe Elementary. The event was a great success, bringing in 16 new members to join the Club! To celebrate, each member wore their BGCWV shirt and was able to participate in the festivities with face painting, a dance party, and a photo booth! We are excited to host more fun events for the community this semester.

Keystone

At Canoga Park High School, members got creative and learned how to make dog toys out of old shirts! They then donated them to a local animal shelter.

  • A monthly gift of $25 helps to subsidize one kid's transportation to the Clubhouse for one day every month.
  • A monthly gift of $50 provides supplies for one class offered to 20 kids every month.
  • A monthly gift of $100 provides a STEM kit for one class of 20 kids every month.
  • A monthly gift of $250 provides two weeks of summer camp programs for one kid.

We serve the kids daily because you partner with us on our mission to inspire and enable every young person, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible adults.
