The Heart of a Coach
Three years ago, a coach introduced himself to me during a junior varsity basketball game. He was inquiring about a coaching position with our basketball program. At that time, I was not on staff with FCA, but the Lord was calling me to full time ministry. The thought of mentoring an eager young coach was very appealing to me. After a two-hour interview session, it was clear to me that the Lord had brought us together.
I had the chance to be a part of the transformation of the heart of a young coach and to come alongside him in his faith journey.
Fast forward to today. This coach now leads his own program. He has grown personally and continues to learn each day. Despite the challenges, he is hungry and works hard at the art form of coaching. But most importantly, he has changed his WHY. He desires to be a transformational coach that impacts the lives of his players. He is clear that the source of this transformation is the Gospel of Jesus Christ in his life.
The heart of this coach will never be the same.
Just recently he said: “I have learned and gained so much from Coach Tim Morton and the FCA Oakland ministry. Coach Morton has truly impacted my life and my coaching through the example of his genuine love for Christ and others. I have experienced camps, night of champions, and huddles through FCA Oakland. Coach Morton and the FCA Oakland ministry are doing special things in our communities and they have my full support.”
This is the type of impact that your support for the ministry of FCA Oakland/Macomb will have.
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:14-15
We are dedicated to our strategy of building the ministry through relationships with coaches. Your gift will allow us to provide training and create opportunities like our Coaches Time Out marriage retreat next summer in Columbus, Ohio.
Each new huddle needs bibles so that huddle leaders can effectively serve athletes with the power of Scripture. Your end of the year gift will be used to impact the start of new campus ministries in the Oakland/Macomb area.
FCA Oakland/Macomb would like to see 100 student athletes discipled at camps next summer. Your end of the year gift will be used to impact a potential camper at our Michigan FCA sports camp at Albion College or our FCA Leadership Camp at Camp Michindoh in Hillsdale.
Would you prayerfully consider an end of the year gift for FCA Oakland/Macomb?
