June has been an amazing month for our Club and myself. Our Board Chairman, Don Weissman, and I were flown to Sacramento to receive the 2024 California Non-Profit of the Year recognition from Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel for his district.
Later that week, we celebrated 153 graduation seniors from our High School Future Ready Programs this year. These members all graduated on time with a plan for their future. Those going college-bound received over $100,000 in scholarship and aid thanks to the support of our Future Ready Advisors and volunteers.
Later this month, I was privileged to address about 300 businesswomen and men at the 2024 Los Angeles Business Journal Women's Leadership Symposium & Awards on Next-Gen Leaders. My article on the matter can be found here.
The celebrations continued with our community partner, VICA, as they celebrated 75 years. We are grateful for all they do to advocate for business and non-profit organizations in the San Fernando Valley. Congratulations again on the continued success and impact for all.
On Tuesday of this week, we hosted our 32nd Open Clubhouse event as we Celebrated BGCA Week. We thank all our partners, supporters, and volunteers who helped us create a little fun for our members and staff.
Today I was honored as one of twenty women by Senator Henry Sterns. The work we do at the Club impacts lives. I got to meet Shelley, featured here below. She was the Principal at Calvert Charter for Enriched Studies; the 1st Club location for BGCWV. It was so much fun to connect with others who truly enjoy investing in life for the benefit of others.

Check out this past month's happenings:
-Reseda Elementary-
In our last month of the semester we celebrated our members at Reseda Elementary. Many of our coaches attended a memorable 5th grade culmination. The ceremony was an emotional event, marking a significant milestone for our young learners. A proud moment for the Boys and Girls Club.
The celebrations didn’t stop there! To mark the end of the school year, we hosted a party for all of our members. There were snow cones and pizza paired with giant smiles and memories. These events not only provided a well-deserved break but also reinforced the strong bonds within our Reseda community.
On to our next chapter!

-Blythe Elementary-
To celebrate the end of the school year and being a Boys & Girls Club member, Blythe Elementary hosted an incredible event where students enjoyed delicious snow cones, danced their hearts out to the latest tunes, and competed in a lively game of mini-golf. The day was filled with laughter, cheers, and unforgettable memories, all thanks to the dedicated staff, volunteers, and community supporters. This celebration was a wonderful way to bring everyone together, highlighting the vibrant spirit of our school community as we look forward to another amazing year ahead.

End of School Year Celebration
-Calabash Elementary-
To close out the year, the members at Calabash Charter Academy took part in an end of the year party. The members enjoyed a luau/summer themed party which included a pizza party, fun decorations, and won prizes from the games provided. The purpose of the event was to celebrate all of the great memories made this year and how we will continue to do so into the following school year. One thing to highlight from this event was how grateful our members were to have this celebration and be a part of the Boys and Girls Club at Calabash!

-Justice St. Elementary-
In June we had our end of year party to celebrate the end of the semester. For our end of year celebration we had Kona Ice come onto campus and the members were able to pick their snowcones. After we had our Pizza party, members from our leadership club helped set up decorations for the party. The members enjoyed pizza, cookies, juices, sweet treats and played games. Our Board member Mihran also came to the party and we took end of year group photos. We had a raffle as well for the members and they won headphones, a gaming light, legos, candy, and more. Coaches gave heartfelt speeches and members shared their favorite memories. It was a great year and we were sad to see it end, but members are excited to see what next year will.

-Woodland Hills Elementary-
In the last few weeks of the Spring Semester, Coach Kat and the Optimist Club hosted an art contest for all of the Elementary School kids to join. Woodland Hills Elementary had around 10-15 participants. Anyone who participated in the contest had the chance to go on a Field Trip to the Griffith Observatory with members from other schools. The first and second place winners came from Woodland Hills! Zoe Graham (bottom) and Frankie Chapman (Top) are two best friends who both won the art contest. Frankie won first place and Zoe won second. Winning this contest boosted their confidence in their artistic abilities and made them excited for any future contests we have.
Congratulations to Frankie and Zoe!

This summer, we at the main clubhouse have been practicing our hip hop skills with the wonderful team at No Easy Props! This program runs weekly on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. During these times, the program serves 20 students for each one-hour increment. Pictured to the right, the kids are competing in a dance battle by showing off their super cool dance moves!
Teen Center
With the beginning of summer camp feeling the start of the summer heat wave, the teens from the teen center are now keeping cool by participating in our water games program. This program will run weekly every Tuesday. The purpose of this program is to keep our members well informed about keeping hydrated and cool during a bad heat wave as well as having fun while doing so. I would like to highlight the engagement that was being displayed during the program. It was well received.

Canoga Park High School
At Canoga Park High School during our summer session, we worked with the amazing Bright Star Martial Arts in our first self defense course for members to understand the foundation of protecting themselves in unsafe situations. All of our members were extremely involved and excited to learn the fundamentals of self defense.
