Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ -

I hope our Jubilee Year of St. Francis Pilgrimage is a time of prayer, reflection, rest and calm. And fun!

A pilgrimage is not a vacation (but that doesn’t mean it isn’t relaxing or fun). Pope Benedict XVI said, “To go on pilgrimage is not simply to visit a place to admire its treasures of nature, art or history.” Rather, it “really means to step out of ourselves in order to encounter God where he has revealed himself, where his grace has shone with particular splendor.”

Joining us on our pilgrimage is Dr. Ruben Mendoza, Professor-emeritus of archaeology and mission scholar who will offer insights on San Juan Bautista and Carmel Mission. And I'll offer some reflections on St. Francis, mass, and other prayer opportunities. St. Francis still inspires people of all faiths in reflecting on peace, simplicity, and care for the environment.

It's a small group that we are assembling and there are a few spots still available.

The 250th Anniversary of our nation's Independence is next Saturday, July 4th. We'll offer a special prayer service with readings, prayer and song on Wednesday, July 1st at 7pm.

Peace and blessings,

Father Gil
