WEBINAR ABSTRACT
Recent data suggests that many individuals presenting with a variety of addictive behaviors have in common a history of Disorganized Attachment. In this workshop, we will dissect Disorganized Attachment and the resultant lack of integration of a coherent sense of self and unintegrated internal working models, which leave the individual vulnerable to dissociation and affect dysregulation managed by addictive behavior

Interventions are targeted to: (1) developing coherent, cohesive, and collaborative narratives; (2) facilitating the grieving process; (3) recognizing the idealization of (“loyalty” to) caretakers; (4) facilitating metacognition (the ability to reflect accurately on the behavior of the self and others); and, (5) understanding the pressure to achieve (if present).

Internal polarizations related to taking care of others to get one’s needs met while simultaneously feeling victimized by and rageful at those who hurt them will be discussed.

Interventions targeting the capacity to form secure intimate relationships without the terror related to past injuries will be a primary focus of the workshop.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HARMONY PLACE MONTEREY

As a transitional-living, one-of-a-kind outpatient alternative to residential care, we're structured as an intensive six-hours-a-day Partial Hospitalization Program with a step down to a three-hours-a-day Outpatient Program where our clients acquire the skills and understanding in order to live better. We are ideally poised as the place a client goes after completing residential treatment, where the ongoing therapy is needed and the support is critical.

Working closely with existing residential treatment centers, our ongoing goal is to partner with facilities on behalf of our clients in order to ensure the transition from residential to outpatient care is smooth, supportive, and an extension of the work already begun while in residential treatment. Because we are able to provide longer-term treatment programs that are authorized by insurance companies, we have the greatest opportunity to work closely with clients over time, ensuring their treatment is tailored specifically to them and that their ability to lead fulfilling lives is attained prior to treatment completion.

Helping to ease the suffering of men and women of all ages is no small task, but by working together — collaborating and supporting, our industry has the best chance of doing just that.

A HUGE Thank You Again to our Referring Partners!
We are proud to be able to serve the community when our community needs us most. The overwhelming demand for treatment services for mental health and chemical dependency is at an all time high.

At Harmony Place Monterey, we are here to support our local therapists, psychiatrists and psychologists with this extraordinary demand. Our referring partners are entrusting their patients to us for group and daily evaluation. In turn, we are able to mobilize stabilization and a much needed community connection and refer back out into the community in a successful transition. Thank you to our referring partners. We are all in this together!
