My name is Emmy Her Many Horses-Michaud and one year ago, I joined the team as Director of Lakota Language and Education at Thunder Valley CDC. My parents are Randy Her Many Horses and Lucy Reifel. My grandparents are Albert and Helen Reifel and Leo and Lorna Her Many Horses. I am Siċaƞġu and Oglala Lak̇ot̄a and I was born and raised on the Rosebud Reservation, where I am also a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

As a former community and classroom immersion educator, I was thrilled to join the team here at Wak̄iƞyaƞ Oṗa and support the efforts taking place in our classrooms and community. As a child, I yearned to learn my own language but had limited opportunities to do so. As I moved into my professional life, I continue to find myself back in spaces that uplift and pass our language on to new generations. Being able to speak Lak̇ot̄a with our children each day brings me immense joy and an incredible sense of hope for our future.

While current world affairs are troubling, we remain committed to our mission to ensure our children have a future where they are able to be all parts of who they are with their language, lifeways and spirituality intact. With your help, we will obtain this future for our children.

I encourage you to consider making a donation to assist our children and elders, either through financial support or by purchasing essential classroom supplies on a regular basis. Your generosity can make a significant difference. Please take a moment to click the links below to explore how you can contribute.
