Tee Off Fore Kids Golf Classic 2024

Monday, March 25th was a beautiful morning as the sun swept the hills of the Calabasas Country Club. As the players arrived, they were greeted by staff who took their clubs and bags to their cart. They were then invited to purchase mulligans which came with 10 raffle tickets, a ballmarker, and a huge smile from our volunteers. As players had over 20 items to choose from many purchased additional raffle tickets as the options were so good! We thank all of those who donated and contributed to the silent auction and live auction items, which brought in over $3,000 that day.

Big shoutout to our winners:

  • At 61, our 3rd place winners were Carlos Gonzalez, Isaiah Gonzalez, Daniel Gonzalez, and Jason Villicana.
  • At 58, our 2nd place winners were Garrett Liebman, Josh Miscione, Grant Chapman, and Sam Marshall.
  • At 57, our 1st place winners were Gary McMillan, Chad McMillan, Dean McMillan, and Adam Hollinger.

We thank our sponsors who help us bring in more funds in support of our Sports & Recreation programs that run year-round.

Club Highlights

Check out this past month's happenings:

Discovery Cube Assembly

Reseda Elementary

This month Reseda had the pleasure of hosting the Discovery Cube’s “Science Magic” assembly.

All members were so excited to attend the event, which took place on a Fun Friday. So, despite kids and parents being ready for the weekend, we still had over 100 members attend and learn something new that day.

Our presenter had all of our members captivated, from our smallest TK members to our most aloof fifth graders. It was a sight to see!

Through their assembly, they were able to learn about a handful of different scientific concepts. The experiments and reactions shown by the engaging members provided a good introduction to the complexities of the scientific world.

We look forward to our continued exploration of science in the weeks and months to come!

Art with Coach Karla

Blythe Elementary

Members embarked on a delightful journey of appreciation. They filled a box of chocolates not with confectionary products, but with heartfelt tokens representing the things they cherish most in life. From handwritten notes of gratitude to small mementos symbolizing cherished memories, each item became a sweet reminder of the joys and blessings surrounding them. This unique activity encouraged mindfulness and gratitude while also fostering a sense of community and connection among the member . It's a beautiful reminder that even life's simplest pleasures are worth savoring.

Minecraft Modding (CodeFu)

Calabash Elementary

At our Calabash site in Woodland Hills, we introduced a Minecraft Modding program in partnership with CodeFu. Modding is where one edits something for games or software.

This program taught members both the basics of coding as well as the social skills and themes relevant to kids their age that are required to problem solve.

The skills learned will benefit members in their day-to-day school life as well as launch their curiosity into coding. The program will run for 10 weeks. We are enthusiastic to see the members' excitement to begin this new program!

Reading Across America

Week

Justice St. Elementary

At the start of the month, we launched the Read Across America program.

Our partnership with the L.A. RAMS ensured special guests, like Rampage, paid a visit to Justice St Elementary. Several players and enthusiastic cheerleaders accompanied Rampage.

The students added their own touch by decorating their classrooms and wearing Rams jerseys, adding to the festive atmosphere. The highlight of the event was the engaging reading sessions led by RAMS players and cheerleaders while Rampage visited the classrooms. The RAMS gifted every student a book and bookmark. It was a joyful occasion where everyone got into the spirit of things, dressing up and enjoying the festivities together!

DEI

Woodland Hills Elementary

The Woodland Hills Elementary site celebrated DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) during St. Patrick's Day.

Our 2nd-4th grade members engaged in art projects inspired by the holiday and also learned about the cultural significance of St. Patrick's Day. This inclusive celebration fostered a sense of understanding and appreciation for different cultures and traditions among the young participants, promoting a welcoming and diverse environment at the club.

Animation

Gary M. Thomas Clubhouse

Dive into the magical world of animation with our recent workshop at the Gary M. Thomas Clubhouse! Kids had a blast learning from a Disney YouTube animator, as they followed along and brought Stitch to life on paper. Members learned how to master the basics of character design and received insider tips, every moment was filled with creativity and inspiration. It's incredible to see our young artists flourish and express themselves through the art of animation. Stay tuned for more exciting workshops and opportunities to spark imagination at our Clubhouse!

Animation with Coach Kat

Teen Center

Here we have some of our teens participating in our Art program doing animation on the LED traceable light box allowing them to create 2D animations.

Members learn to evoke emotions, build connections, and tell stories in a manner no other medium can. This program runs every Wednesday with our Art Coach, Kat. Soon they will move on from 2D animation to claymation.

Keystone

Canoga Park High School

Our Keystone program is the cornerstone of our community engagement efforts, fostering both learning and active participation among our members. Through this program, members delve into a comprehensive understanding of our community's needs, dynamics, and challenges. They gain insights and actively contribute by planning and organizing events aimed at giving back to the community.

Scholarship Lab

Cleveland High School

Senior members were excited to welcome our long-time volunteer, Adrienne Kentor, back after a much-deserved sabbatical.

Adrienne immediately got right back in the groove of things and immediately helped members find new amazing scholarship opportunities.

Academic Advisement

Chatsworth High School

Every week we are working diligently towards supporting Academic Achievement at Chatsworth.

Our members have the opportunity to win a new BGCWV planner. To do so, they must attend a certain number of days, participate in workshops and programs, and show a concerted effort in their academic activities.

Here featured are two of our members who have been closely working with BGCWV advisors to maintain their academic success. As they've worked so hard they were eligible to receive a new planner for their remaining school year to continue to help themselves in their planning!
