CultureLink News

September 2022

Schools are back in session and after-school activities are in high demand. A variety of CultureLink programs for school-aged children and young adults, are available at our Children and Youth Centre and around the city. With a focus on education, recreation, employment, volunteerism and the arts, we aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for children, youth and their families.

A New Generation of Cyclists

Last July, we co-hosted a bike giveaway event with Duke Heights BIA. Our staff and volunteers built 120 bikes that were given that day to families in the community. Each child received a bike and a helmet, and participated of our 'learn-to-ride' lessons, bike safety clinic and a group ride - and all activities were available in four different languages!!

It was a rainy day, but a happy one for all the families that participated, for their children biked away armed with the tools and skills they need to start conquering the road!

CultureLink's Bike Hub supports local cyclists and fosters a culture of repair and reuse by empowering people to fix their own bicycles and collecting used ones to rebuild for the community. To learn more about this program, visit: www.culturelink.ca/bike-hub/

Partner Highlight

For a few months now, CultureLink has been partnering with Earth Rangers on Project 2050: Climate-friendly habits to change the world!

The program provides an easy and fun way for children and their families to contribute to the fight against climate change by adopting small but impactful climate-friendly habits that are explained and practiced as challenges!

The newest challenge is called All Taste, No Waste, encouraging kids and families to cut down on the amount of food that gets thrown away. Get started today!

Parents: to join the challenges, you need to create an account.
