Three Steps Towards Peace

“What should we do, then, so that nations will really want peace? First of all, we should not have so much fear—namely, about the evil intentions of others. Naturally, anyone can be anxious in today’s world. But we can do many things that are precisely what we should not do. If we don’t act as if our dear God is dying, and as if others are planning to eat us in the near future, then we will be doing our part for world peace.

Second, those who do not want to be afraid must be people who have decided to see with their own eyes, to hear with their own ears, and to think with their own heads. They must not let themselves be turned into a mass product through public opinion or propaganda. Peace is in danger because there are so few free people.

And, third, people who have no fear are those who are fully open to the troubles and needs of their fellow human beings and to the question of how they can be of assistance, but who, by contrast, are capable of not taking themselves and their own ideas so terribly seriously. The danger of war is also always present when so many people have swallowed some kind of yardstick. Away with the yardsticks! Those who cannot sigh with others and laugh a little bit about themselves are warmongers.

One more thing: a great fear of God is required if one really wants to have peace.”

Adult Classes

“Genesis” September 8-November 24 | Phifer Library

The Bible’s first book contains many well-known stories, some familiar since childhood: creation and the garden of Eden; an ark full of animals adrift in a flood; Abraham and Isaac; the conniving Jacob; and the dreams of Joseph. Now hear these stories again in a new way, and in hearing, discover the knowledge that God created everything in goodness and love.

“Faith at Home: A Handbook for Cautiously Christian Parents”

September 8 - November 24 | 2nd floor conference room | Led by Tyler Wheeler & Sarah Edgecombe

As parents, we strive to help our children develop a strong moral foundation, including a strong understanding of Christian faith. With so many contradictions from mainstream culture, however, many parents are left feeling as though religious language is a foreign language and are unsure how to incorporate faith practices into family life. Faith at Home aims to help parents learn this “second language” and introduce it to children in simple and meaningful ways.

This coming Sunday's topic will be "Talking About God", led by Tyler Wheeler

Children's Sunday School Returns!

Sunday morning we welcomed over forty children from age three through fifth grade for Sunday School!
