Halifax’s Hometown Hero Banners Honor Local Veterans
For the past four years, Hometown Hero banners have been displayed throughout Halifax, giving the community a visible way to recognize and honor local veterans.
Steve Littlefield, Halifax Veterans Agent, has made the Hometown Hero Banner program possible, bringing these tributes to the streets of Halifax for the past four years. The banners feature veterans’ photographs and service information, creating personal tributes throughout the community. For residents and visitors, they offer an opportunity to see the names and faces of local veterans and remember the service behind each banner.
| | |
In an August 27 post, Littlefield shared an update on the Hometown Hero Banner Program: “Unfortunately, we are NO LONGER accepting submissions for the Hometown Hero Banner program until further notice.”
Littlefield explained that there is hopefully one more round of banners to be put together for Veteran's Day. If completed, that round would mark four years of displaying the banners throughout Halifax.
The current banners will remain in place as long as they continue to withstand wear and tear. Littlefield noted that they have held up well overall, with a few damaged by large trucks traveling along Route 106. Littlefield also thanked everyone who has participated in the program and those who donated to help make the banners possible.
As you travel through Halifax, take a moment to look for the Hometown Hero banners. Each one represents a local veteran and a story of service. With the current banners continuing to line the community, there is still an opportunity to pause, read a name, and remember the person behind it.

YMCA Camp On West Monponsett
In 1926, Halifax was a place of summer residence for many people who admired its scenery and cordial atmosphere. There were four hundred and thirty-seven non-residents owning property in Halifax, but just one hundred and ninety-seven residents who lived here full time.
Monponsett Lakes were bordered by attractive summer homes. The shore of West Lake was the recreation ground for the Boston Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), which maintained a summer camp there on seven hundred acres of land.
Respectfully submitted, Sue Basile

Climate Can Do - Carpooling!
Looking for an easy way to save the environment and money? Look no further than carpooling! Seemingly simple in nature, the act of carpooling and sharing a ride with co-workers, friends, and others has a profound impact on both our ecosystems and wallets. Carpooling reduces carbon footprints and improves air quality while simultaneously lowering overall fuel costs, and in some cases qualifying eligible participants for tax incentives!
