Trying to find new ways to interact and engage with your preschoolers. In this training, we focus on strategies to implement a positive environment by engaging in interactive opportunities with young children.

Watermelon is an awesome summertime fruit! It quenches thirst, supplies seeds for spitting contests, and can even be a fun craft activity.

Expand the craft and use the pits as counting practice. How many seeds you paint on your slice?

We want to make you aware of a scam that has recently been reported by several child care providers and the media.

Scammers are pretending to be parents who need child care right away. They may say they are moving to Maryland from another state or even from another country. They may contact you by phone, email, text message, social media, or online child care websites.

Checking in with Your Child This Summer

(Maryland Messenger 06/01/2026)

Summer can be a lot of fun for young children. But this season can bring big feelings that your child may need help learning to process. Make sure you check in with your child by asking questions like “how are you feeling?” or “what is on your mind?”

Asking these questions creates a safe space where your child can express their thoughts and feelings. Speaking about them helps them learn to handle them, improving their social emotional development. Listen to your child and validate their feelings. This helps your child learn while also allowing you to bond with your child.

Maryland Child Care Licensing Updates

(Tuesday Tidbits 06/09/2026)

Beginning May 1, 2026, several new regulatory items have been added to the Mandatory Inspection reports including but not limited to child records, first aid/CPR certification, and medication administration and child security. These items are required to be monitored annually based on the Federal Office of Child Care and CCDF standards.

Beginning June 1, 2026, Informal Child Care Providers have been assigned to the Licensing Branch. The licensing staff will begin conducting in-person inspections of Informal Child Care providers.
