Volunteers: The Heart of Senior Coastsiders
If you spend any time at Senior Coastsiders - whether enjoying lunch in the dining room or attending a class - you will quickly notice something special. Much of what happens here is made possible by the generosity and dedication of our volunteers. Last fiscal year, over 220 individuals volunteered nearly 15,000 hours - that’s impressive.
Our volunteers are a remarkable group who contribute their time, skills, and enthusiasm to support older adults throughout the Coastside. They help in countless ways: delivering meals to homebound neighbors, assisting in the dining room, supporting events and fundraising, teaching classes, serving on the Board, and handling the small but important tasks that keep programs running smoothly.
Volunteers extend the reach of our programs, helping more neighbors stay connected and engaged. Beyond the services themselves, it’s the spirit they bring - a friendly greeting, a thoughtful conversation, or a delivered meal - that truly makes a difference.
Many of our volunteers are older adults themselves - neighbors supporting neighbors. Volunteering not only helps others, but also reduces isolation, strengthens purpose, and supports overall well-being. Many volunteers report greater life satisfaction and stronger community connections.
As we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month in April, we thank every volunteer who supports Senior Coastsiders. Their generosity helps make the Coastside a more connected and caring community.
Feeling inspired? Visit or call the office to learn more about how
you can get involved!

Did you know that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss, affecting an estimated 20 million people in the United States alone? This condition impacts the macula—the part of the eye responsible for sharp, central vision—making everyday activities like reading, driving, and recognizing faces more difficult. Common symptoms include blurred or distorted vision, dark or empty areas in the center of sight, and difficulty seeing in low light. While AMD does not cause complete blindness, early detection and support can make a meaningful difference.
