DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

Adorable cute happy French Bulldog dogs wearing sunglasses in summer in front of meadow and blue sky on hot day
The Dog Days of Summer in Colorado
The old-timers in Colorado always said the Dog Days of Summer weren't named for lazy hounds sleeping on porches. They'd smile, tip their hats, and say, "No... they're the days when even the mountains seem to pant."
By early August, the wildflowers begin to fade. The streams run cold, and the afternoons grow warm & we all slow down a bit. Aspen leaves shimmer & the pine forests fill the air with their sweet vanilla scent. Next time you walk in a pine forest find a tree & take in the aroma. Some say I am crazy..just try it! Ponderosa Pines smell like Vanilla.
Mornings begin the same with..:"Colorado Blue" skies..perhaps a Crayola could add it to the box of 48 Crayola Crayons. The state flower blooms in wild flower meadows. Marmots whistle warnings from their rocky castles. It is easy to believe the perfect weather would last forever.
By noon, the dogs find cool patches beneath the porch. Ranchers lean against fence posts to survey herds of cattle & horses. Hikers soak their feet in boots or barefoot in the cool water of a mountain stream. In Dillon people lounge at the Tiki Bar to watch sailboats pass in full sail. Frisco offers outdoor patios to sip your favorite beverage & watch the world wander by.
You can almost set your clocks..clouds appear over the Peak One, Ten Mile & Gore Range & the towering "anvil" clouds appear bringing the smell of rain..& with them the afternoon showers to cool the earth. Colorado natives & long timers can almost set a watch to the afternoon "showers and soakers".
Lo & Behold..Sunlight breaks through. Steam rises from warm rocks. Every pine needle sparkles with raindrops. The air smells fresh & if luck is with you a rainbow appears to top of your day. The pot of Gold is there in the heart of Summit County.
As darkness falls, Stars twinkle on a clear evening, the Milky Way appears & all is well on a Summer evening in "Colorado's Playground"
Listen & You might hear the call of the Coyote from the hills above!
The Dog Days of Summer in Colorado weren't really about the heat.
The Dog Days are in invitation to slow down & enjoy a lovely Colorado evening in Our Mountains.
And if you were lucky enough to spend those days here, you discovered something truly magical.
And if you are really lucky..perhaps on a porch of your own, in a tent, on a horse, on a boat, on a river with "man's best friend" at your feet.
Would you like to know more about how to truly enjoy a summer evening in your very own home? Please call me..I can tell you about our GLORIOUS WINTERS as well.
