The San José City Council voted 8–3 to move forward the policy framework for the City's 2040 General Plan Four-Year Review, launching the next phase of work to make it easier to build more housing and meet state housing requirements.
Over the next year, the City will evaluate policies to allow more housing in appropriate areas, encourage redevelopment of underutilized properties, and create additional housing opportunities near jobs and transit.
The Chamber supports this work because increasing the supply of housing is essential to improving affordability, attracting and retaining talent, and strengthening San José's long-term economic competitiveness. We will continue to advocate for practical housing solutions that support both our workforce and our business community.
