Fall is upon us with sunny days, cool breezes, and so many campus happenings.  It’s the time when students are settled into their classes, engaging and learning in new and exciting ways.  We are also beginning to see the benefits of schedule changes and new program offerings!  The new Advisory schedule is allowing students to start their days with organization and intention, while building strategies to make the most of each day.  Students finish each day with time to complete their work or attend Literacy Lab.

Literacy Lab is off to a successful start!  Students with needs for literacy support are receiving explicit instruction in the areas they need most - phonics, vocabulary development, reading fluency, and comprehension.   Early feedback is extremely positive and I can’t wait to see the students’ growth as this program continues.

October is also Spirit Month - and what a spirited month it has been so far!  It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to unite while enjoying team-building activities and games.  It’s not over yet - we still have so many more activities ahead, including more dress-up days and student-led BBQ!

Lastly, I want to thank Assistant Principal Weeden for stepping up during Principal Garrison’s maternity leave. Kelsey’s shoes are very big, yet he filled them so competently with good humor, grace, and understanding, while always keeping students first in everything he does. Kelsey, I can’t wait to welcome you back next week! We’ve missed you and look forward to your presence back on campus.

Happy Fall!

Support The Winston School’s Arts Program!

The Winston School’s Arts Program inspires students to explore their creativity, build confidence, and express themselves through painting, drawing, ceramics, and mixed-media projects. In every class, students learn to see the world through an artist’s lens—developing focus, problem-solving skills, and pride in their work.  Your support helps provide art materials, studio resources, and opportunities for students to create, learn, and shine.

As a 501(c)(3), your tax-deductible donation immediately impacts your student’s experience at Winston School. All contributions — no matter the amount — are valued and appreciated.

We are so happy to welcome Honey, Winston School’s newest staff member.  Honey has found her new loving home with Head Counselor, Sam Thomas.  Winston knows the positive influence animals have on our lives, bringing joy, comfort, and sometimes even a needed distraction.  Welcome, Honey!

What’s your favorite food?

There are too many to choose from! A few of my favorites are chicken, apples, and carrots, but I wish I could eat everything!

What do you normally do on the weekend?

On the weekends, I love playing with new friends at dog beach, taking long walks and hiking outside, and cuddling with my humans.

How do you like to be on campus with students?

Being at Winston is so much fun! My favorite parts are the never ending belly rubs from students, and daydreaming about chasing the bunnies and lizards around campus (because mom won't let me actually chase them.)

Can you describe yourself in three barks or less?

sweet, silly, snuggly  (at least that's what my mom says)
