A Commitment to Care: Our Focus on Student Mental Health

As we begin the month of September, we want to take this opportunity to acknowledge that September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. It's a time to raise awareness and promote resources to support mental health and well-being.

The Tangipahoa Parish School System is deeply committed to the social and emotional well-being of our students. We recognize that mental health is a crucial component of a child's overall success, both in and out of the classroom. Our school system has counselors and social-emotional learning coaches available, offering a range of resources and support services to ensure that every student has access to the help they may need.

We encourage you to have open and honest conversations with your children about their mental health. We are here to support you and your family. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's school counselor or school administration.

Suicide Warning Signs

Over the last decade, teens have indicated increased feelings of suicidality. It’s important for parents to know the warning signs, learn how to ask the question, and how to navigate a mental health crisis.

2025-2026 Academic Year

Follow along with our school year by saving our Academic Calendar for future reference. It has our planned holidays, PD Days, and grading periods marked.

Our High Schools will follow and A/B Calendar. Print this for your high school student's binders, so that they can have it on hand.

*Note: Ponchatoula Junior High School will also follow the High School A/B Calendar for the 2025-2026 school year.

On this Patriot Day, we remember and honor the lives lost and the heroes who emerged on September 11, 2001.

ATTENDANCE

School Attendance

In an effort to ensure students are in class to receive valuable learning, some of our attendance procedures have been updated in alliance with state guidelines. Notifications of student absences will be sent to families using the parent/guardian email address on file and a hard copy sent home with students.

Read our Letter to Families

Did you know? A student is considered truant after 5 unexcused absences and is placed on a truancy list. They stay on the list for a semester unless they submit excuses.

Log into the Student Progress Center to track attendance records.

Stay in the loop with your child's academic journey!

Our Student Progress Center is the one-stop-shop for all your needs. Emails were sent to guardians this week with instructions on how to get started.

Didn't receive the email? Contact your child's school to update your contact information.

With your SPC account, you can:

  • see student schedules
  • check grades and test scores
  • view attendance records
  • update your contact information

Access the SPC to set up your account, or log in with existing information on our website at https://www.tangischools.org/academics/studentprogress

READY FOR SCHOOL

The Tangipahoa Parish School Board is committed to providing a safe, healthy, and productive learning environment for all students. The rise in the use of vaping devices and related products poses a serious health risk and creates disruptions to the educational setting. This policy is designed to deter the use, possession, and distribution of tobacco, vaping, and marijuana products, and to enforce strict disciplinary measures that promote student well-being, accountability, and compliance with Louisiana law.

Read our

Revised Policy on Vaping- Policy JCDAA

Know the Policy

Our TPSS Student and Parent Handbook provides important information about district policies, expectations, and resources. We encourage all families to review it to ensure a successful and informed school year.

STUDENT SAFETY

We are excited to kick off the 2025-2026 gameday season! Our students, athletes, bands, cheerleaders, performance teams, and coaches have been working hard, and we look forward to seeing our community come together to support them.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all spectators, please remember the following:

Clear Bag Policy: Only clear bags will be permitted inside the stadiums. If a purse is not clear, only small clutch purses (no larger than a hand) are allowed.

Security Screening: Metal detectors or handheld wands may be used at the entrance gates. Please allow a few extra minutes for this process.

We want to remind our spectators that our schools are cashless, which means tickets can be purchased on your smartphone. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. Follow your school's Facebook page for ticket information.

Gun Safety Program for K-4th Grade Students - Coming to a School Near You!

We would like to inform you about a gun safety program that will be implemented in grades K-4, starting in September. The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program is a gun accident prevention program that, for over 30 years, has helped keep kids safe. The program was developed by a task force comprising educators, school administrators, curriculum specialists, urban housing safety officials, clinical psychologists, law enforcement officials, and National Rifle Association firearm safety experts. It began in 1988 with one mission: teach children four simple, easy-to-remember steps so they know what to do if they ever come across a gun. Eddie and his friends are focused on telling children that if they see a gun, they need to Stop! Don't touch. Run away. Tell a grown-up.

Tangipahoa Parish School System is committed to keeping our students safe, and this gun safety program is one way we can proactively protect students. The program will be delivered by Lt. Don Alexander of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. The program includes this video and a discussion of gun safety procedures. If you would like more information on the program, please visit the Eddie Eagle and the Wing Team website. There are additional resources for families to continue gun safety education with children.

If you know something, say something.
