Burgundy
Post Brexit
As the dust settles on leaving the EU, the changes for wine importers have become clearer. Put simply we now have to make an export declaration and import clearance for the goods rather than moving products within a single market. This involves some form filling and additional costs for each shipment.
For high volume wines with large shipments the costs are spread over many bottles and so less significant. For the more specialist wines shipped in smaller quantities the cost per bottle is much higher. One way we mitigate these costs in Burgundy is by working with a representative for many vineyards, Patrice Tournier.
Patrice works with many small producers across Burgundy and Beaujolais, seeking out the best in each appellation. We evaluate his wines and list what we consider to be the best. By the time a Burgundy wine hits our shelves it really is the best of the best and we are really proud of our range from one of the classic wine regions.
The list of beautiful wines is long, but I will highlight just a couple of wines. The Château Vitallis Pouilly-Fuissé Les Perrieres is a perfect harmony of fruit and subtle oak wrapped in a lovely texture and a wine that lasts long in the mouth. Les Perrieres is a prime location within the Pouilly-Fuissé region where some of the best vineyards are located. Château Vitallis is a family-run wine estate founded in 1835, now run by Denis Dutron and his son Maxime.
From our wonderful range of red Burgundies, the Savigny Les Beaune from Domaine Cornu Camus is a fine, elegant Burgundy from a small producer in the hills just above the Burgundy capital of Beaune. I once spent a very pleasant week staying in Savigny-Les-Beaune whilst walking in the hills of Burgundy among the vines resplendent in their Autumn gold colours. This fine Pinot Noir has raspberry fruit aromas, is silky smooth in the mouth with good fruit and a hint of spice.
These two examples show Burgundy wines at their best. With a creative solution to post Brexit logistics, these are just two of the great Burgundies where we can still offer great value.
If you are looking to treat yourselves to a special wine to celebrate coming out of lockdown look no further.
