WEEK IN REVIEW

COVER PHOTO:

We had our first Saturday morning obedience walk in a while. Leo and Scootch attended. It was a pushed-in face dog day! Leo has had some regression, especially when he was back at home, where he had barked at dogs for years. It was good to see him again. The boys got lots of attention and affection from the people at the Commons. If it is only windy we will have this Saturday's walk. If it is raining (and that is the forecast) we postpone till Oct 3rd. No walk Oct 10th as I will be doing my family's traditional hike of Mount Gunstock.

We had week two of my Saturday Basic Obedience Group. The dogs are improving. There was a much better playtime this week! Socialization is like a muscle. If you do not exercise it, it goes away!

I was dropping Stubby off at my ex-girlfriends house so he could do his therapy dog job with Jordan. The Falmouth Enterprise was in the front yard, so I had him do his old job of fetching the newspaper! Click on the link below to see the video.

I saw my dream car the other night at Mashpee Commons. I have always loved the original Ford Mustangs. When they came out I did not know they were named after the WWII P-51 Mustang, but now knowing that now it makes me love them even more. My mother had a 1968 hunter's green convertible with black interior. My ancient brother (8 years older than me) got to drive it. We would play hooky from Mass and he would drive us around after we bought candy with our collection money. The Beatles would be playing on WRKO on the AM radio. You could change the radio station with just a push of the preset buttons. I burnt my finger on the cigarette lighter when I was left in the car when my Mother ran errands. My little sister Judy puked on my sister Kerry when she Kerry and I were riding in the backseat with the top down on a warm summer night! My older brothers were in the front bucket seats. The Stang developed a steering problem so it was replaced with a station wagon long before I was able to drive. I did not care for the Mustang II's or III's. I do like the retro mustangs! The latest edition not so much. My ex promised me she would buy me a old Mustang for my 60th Birthday...alas we divorced when I was only 53. This particular looking Mustang with the Mag wheels is even more attractive to me than a stock model. Perhaps I am driving this car in a parallel universe:)

I have started my annual read through or should I say listen to of The Lord of the Rings. I escaped into middle earth as a youth and have never really left it. It is my favorite book and the Movie Trilogy is also my favorite film. I think the world is divided into two factions, those that get the Lord of the Rings and those that do not. I had an unbelievable collection of movie memorabilia. I gave it away to a young couple I don't really know. I no longer had the space for items as I was moving. When the couple wed he received the One Ring as his wedding band. When I learned that fact, I took it as a sign that my collection would have a great home.

I am at the part of the Fellowship of the Ring where the Hobbits meet Tom Bombadil. He was returning from collecting the last of the white water lilies for his love River Daughter, Goldberry. On my walk I happened to see one of the last of this year's white water lilies. It is cool when life imitates art. I just need a Goldberry to bring lilies too!

We had a great turnout for the Cape Cod The Cradle of Invasion lecture at Southport in Mashpee last week. I am working on my Cape Cod Commandos in the Pacific War lecture. I have it hand written so now to type and edit. I then have to find photos to match the text. Then a read through to see how it is time wise for the final edit. Will let you know when it is ready!

There was a lecture put on by Mitch Utterback on the Vinland question and it was videoed by FCTV. I will put a link to it when it becomes available! The exhibit is all because of the research done by Neil Good one of the Cape Cod Military Museums volunteers!

TILL SEPTEMBER 27th

Our display is open! I will be there on Fridays. and . Group tours can be arraigned just contact me. This is our best display yet! There are tons of photos, models, artifacts and literature on the 2nd Engineer Special Brigade and other units that trained on Cape Cod and then went on to serve in the Pacific Theater of Operations. The 2nd ESBs became MacArthur's Navy. They constructed landing craft, piloted the landing craft and established beachheads. We tell the story of two AAA units one White one Black that went from Camp Edwards to the steaming jungles of Papua New Guinea. Quonset Point Auxiliary Naval Air Station, Otis gets mentioned. It trained whole carrier squadrons in 1944-45 that went on to fight in the skies of the Pacific. Where was the largest convalescent and rehabilitation Hospital in the U.S.A.? If you guessed Camp Edwards you would be correct!
