Week of October 28 - November 1, 2019
“It's a great time to be an Eagle."

Dear Southern Door Community
We had a great turnout this past week for Parent-Teacher Conferences. We appreciate all the parents coming to partner with our staff so that together, we can better meet our children's needs to be successful, and reach their potential.

Congratulations to the volleyball team, who, for the first time in Southern Door history, has earned a Packerland Conference championship! Now entering the playoffs, they beat Roncalli last night, and will now host St. Mary's Springs from Fond du Lac, Thursday at 7p. Just a reminder that, since this is a WIAA playoff game, no passes are honored. Admission is $5. We encourage everyone in Eagle Nation to come out and cheer on our team!

Just a reminder that there is No School on Thursday and Friday. Thursday, our staff will have a presentation entitled "From ACES to Assets", where an expert in the area of mental health will be sharing strategies for strengthening resilience in our students. This professional development is part of one of the board's strategic goals: to ensure the physical, social, and emotional safety of all students and staff. Staff will spend the rest of the day on curriculum work which is aligned with the second board goal of improving student achievement.

Best wishes for a long and relaxing weekend! Don't forget to turn back your clocks one hour as Daylight Savings Time ends!
Together We Are Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR – TEST OF EMERGENCY WEATHER ALERT – WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30 AT 6PM

With the colder weather upon us, we are going to do our test for emergency weather alert earlier this year.

The Southern Door County School District uses Infinite Campus (IC) to send school and district-wide communication. Parents must opt in to which messages they want to receive.  On Wednesday, October 30 at 6pm, we will send a test to all the communication preferences parents have checked on Infinite Campus.

The following instructions at this  link  detail how to review and update your emergency communication contact information and preferences or you may contact your respective school office for assistance.
GENERAL REMINDERS FOR HALLOWEEN SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY
Students and staff may choose to wear fall colors or an appropriate fall/Halloween costumes.  Please remember, that in line with our school district policies, no masks, no weapons (or look-alike weapons) may be part of the costume.  Any costumes with themes of violence are also not appropriate.  Thus there can be no Scream, Freddy Kruger, etc., nor any other costumes depicting violence, horror, etc.  here at school.  Minimal makeup is permissible if applied at home before coming to school.

You may want to keep in mind the various activities that your child will be involved in such as recess, gym class, lunch, etc. in planning what they will wear to school that day.

As always, learning and safety are our primary concerns.  Please be sure that your child's costume is in good taste and that it will not be a disruption to the learning environment. As with any other theme day, if a student's clothing causes disruption to the learning process, the classroom teacher will be asking them to remove the costume.
STATE AID INCREASE BENEFITS LOCAL TAXPAYERS – For the first time in 12 years, Southern Door School District will see a 17% increase rather than the usual 15% decrease in state aid. This additional $199,000 does not impact the amount of expenses the district can make because it is held to the revenue limit. Since funding for schools is based on state aid and tax levy, the increase of aid to fund our school means that less funding will come from the taxpayer. To get more details, please go to this Door County Daily News interview with Business Manager, Mark Logan.
