MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
Congratulations to our Village Board re-elected Trustees Fritsche and Lopez. As Mayor, I am so proud of our Village Board and the work we have accomplished together. Further congratulations to County Legislator Catherine Borgia, Town Supervisor Dana Levenberg, Councilperson Gabby Hamilton, Tax Collector Holly Perlowitz, Councilperson Angelo Manicchio, and Highway Superintendent Pete Connolly!
Veteran’s Day, held on November 11th of every year, honors military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. According to the Census Bureau, there are over 18 million veterans in the United States, of which nearly 900,000 live in New York State. Ossining has had its share of Veterans from all sections of the military forces. There is a local event and a county-wide event that may be of interest to members of our community. I want to encourage community members that on this day of all days, to thank a veteran.
In September, Governor Kathy Hochul approved the Major Disaster Declaration for Westchester County during Hurricane Ida. The Village of Ossining was hit really hard, creating many hardships in our community. It is one of the unintended consequences of living on the banks of the beautiful Hudson River with all its underground tributaries.

Following the declaration, FEMA stepped in to assist in our area where people can file claims for assistance. Did you suffer from damage from Hurricane Ida? Are you a renter, a business, a single home resident? If so, the deadline to apply for FEMA disaster assistance is Monday, December 6th. For more information, visit: DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA mobile app, or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. The lines are open daily from 8AM to 7PM.
Budget, budgets, Budgets: It’s that time of the year when the staff and Board are hyper-focused on developing, understanding, and approving budgets for 2022. These Budget Review Meetings can be viewed live and are also recorded.
Please note: Instead of our scheduled Work Session this coming Wednesday (11/10), please be reminded that we will be holding our next (virtual) Budget Review Meeting, beginning at 6PM Wednesday 11/10. The one after that will be Thursday evening 11/11, beginning at 5 PM – followed with one on Saturday morning (11/13), which is set aside for any other outstanding budgetary business. Time is TBD as needed.
