Prayer List

As we move forward in these days following our turbulent election season, we acknowledge that while many are filled with hope and joy, there are also many who are disappointed across our nation. May the words of this prayer adapted from my minister colleague Rev. Jean Pupke guide us as we seek healing and transformation, as we commit anew to building up the Beloved Community:

"O Holy One,
look upon your people. We are in fragile times.
In your great providence, you have given us abundance and we have too often lived in scarcity.

You have provided us opportunity to form community
and we have made of it a competition.

Lord, we ask you to help us
that we may renew our communities in Wooster and beyond.

Teach us to leave behind our tribalism.
Help us to forego our partisanship that our fragile democracy might live.

Guide us in our governance.
Breathe into us and our elected ones the breath of spirit
to care for the earth and all its beings,
that all your children might know love
and grow wise in Your ways.

Teach us to love our neighbors fiercely, even in disagreement,
that all our hearts might be your heart,
that we might learn to follow you
all our days.
Amen."

This week we pray for:

Prayers of gratitude for our six-month journey together so far!
Yes, it's been a wonderful 6 months filled with joy and learning. I'm so grateful for you, Westminster church family and friends, and looking forward to see how we grow in our faith, friendship and ministry as our journey continues!

Prayers for smooth transition to Joe who moved to the Memory Care Unit at Danbury.

Jason Owens
Prayers for wisdom and guidance as Jason is taking over the management of his dad's finances.

Dorothy Iams' family
Prayers for Dorothy's niece-in-law who is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, and for her older nephew's partner who was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

Haroldo Nunes, Executive Director of Open Arms Hispanic Ministries
Prayers for our ministry partner Haroldo who will have surgery on November 25.

Vivian Holliday's brother, Louis Holliday, Jr.
Prayers for peace and comfort for Vivian and her family as they grieve the passing of her brother Louis. Louis's older son Louis Arlo Holliday (Hal) died only 6 weeks ago. May we surround them with our love and care during this difficult time.

Deb Kitko, member of the Westminster dance group
Prayers for Deb, her dad's wife Ruth, and their family as they mourn the passing of Deb's father Ralph.

Continued prayers for all at the College of Wooster and at schools in our community as they continue to grapple with challenges related to rising numbers of Covid infections.

Prayers for those who struggle with isolation due to the pandemic... many in care facilities that have to bar in-person visits; who miss the comfort of a hug or hand shake; whose emotional and mental health is affected by the lack of in-person contact.

Prayers for all of those affected by the new waves of Covid-19 infections in this country and across the world. Today we especially lift all healthcare workers in prayer. May each of us do everything to protect the wellbeing and safety of others.

Prayer Request and Privacy Laws

Please note, that because of government privacy laws, hospitals and care centers no longer are allowed to notify churches that a person has been admitted (even if the person lists their home church at admission). The only way that the church staff will know if someone is hospitalized is if a family member or friend lets us know. We'd rather get 20 calls about the same person than none! Thanks for your help in making Westminster a caring community. Contact the Westminster Office by phone 330-263-2398 or email to notify the church if you or someone you know is hospitalized or otherwise in need of our prayers!
