Someone messaged me recently and said:
“Wesleyne, I’ve never seen empathy modeled the way you do it. I didn’t even realize I could lead like that.”
That stopped me.
Because for years, I thought leadership was about keeping things moving.
Having answers. Hitting goals. Being respected.
But the truth is, I became a better leader when I stopped leading from pressure
and started leading from presence.
INSIGHT:
Empathy isn’t about being soft.
It’s about stepping into the world of your team.
It’s asking:
- What are they carrying that I can’t see?
- What might be unsaid that’s impacting performance?
- How do I create safety without lowering the standard?
You don’t have to lower the bar to lead with empathy.
But you do have to listen longer.
And check your assumptions.
And meet people where they are before you guide them forward.
