NPR Election Series: 'We, the Voters' looks at immigration

How immigration is shaping the 2024 election

'We, the Voters: The Left. The Right. The Disenfranchised.' series continues the week of May 6 with a focus on how immigration issues are impacting the 2024 election. The series is tackling issues that voters say they really care about when making their decision at the ballot box; so far reporters have brought us stories about guns in America and perceptions of the economy. You can find those stories from the series page and see plans for future coverage:

Spring fundraising update: Public Media Giving Days

Donate and advocate Public Media Giving Days May 1 and 2

KGOU's spring member drive successfully concluded this week, reaching 320 contributions. Thank you! But with our fiscal year ending soon, we're continuing our efforts to increase our number of supporters. Next week we're joining our fellow local stations, NPR and PBS for a two-day giving event, Public Media Giving Days.

Through Wednesday, May 1, you have an opportunity to donate and have your gift matched by KGOU supporters Andy and Diana Frost of Norman, effectively doubling your contribution. Thursday, May 2 is a day for sharing what public media stations like KGOU mean to you and your community. If you missed the spring fundraiser, it's not too late to support KGOU!

NPR Public Editor weighs in on claims of bias

headshot of smiling woman

NPR has not only brought you the news — it has been in the news over the past couple of weeks. NPR is one of the few news organizations which has a Public Editor, someone representing you, the listener. Complaints of bias are often reviewed by the Public Editor's office, currently held by Kelly McBride of the Poynter Institute, and in last week's column she wrote about recent claims. If you have any questions or comments about news coverage by NPR, please feel free to contact her directly. As always, contact us at KGOU with any questions or comments you may have about our programming or operations.

APM's 'How We Survive': The Worth of Water

This week's KGOU Sunday Radio Matinee comes from American Public Media's award-winning podcast How We Survive. Host Amy Scott reports on places across the West that must fundamentally rethink how water is divided up and used; tech innovations that could help find a way out of the water crisis; and a movement rooted in Indigenous values that would give nature the same rights as people. Tune in Sunday, April 28 at 12 p.m.

NPR Series 'Off the Mark': Marking the Frontier

Hundreds of historical markers across the country tell a similar frontier tale: that innocent white settlers were minding their own business when suddenly Native Americans ran out and killed them for no reason. NPR's investigation into historical markers found some monuments still telling that skewed story to this day — and a Minnesota tribe working to set the record straight. It's the next story in this series set for Monday, April 29 during All Things Considered.
