Receiving the Eucharist

With the return to offering the chalice at Communion time at the Sunday morning Masses in both parishes, this provides a good opportunity to reflect on how we receive the Eucharist. Many of us last received instruction on receiving the Eucharist when we prepared for our First Communion. That may have been a long time ago! Brush up on your technique and refresh your understanding of the Eucharist by watching this video.

Mass Intentions

It has been a long tradition in the Church to offer Masses for people to pray, especially for the dead, seeking God’s grace, mercy, and spiritual benefits through Christ’s sacrifice. Usually a modest donation is given for this. In the coming weeks we have several Masses with no particular intentions. If you would like to have a Mass offered for someone (living or deceased), email the parish office at info@oratorychurch.org or click here.

Center for Family Life Seeking Volunteers

The Center for Family Life is recruiting volunteers to serve in one of two ways:

  1. Seeking volunteers to help immigrants improve their English through a program called Language Circles. Volunteers participate as facilitators in groups that enhance language, cultural exchange and friendships. The fall semester will be a 6-week commitment on Tuesdays from 10:00–11:30am, from October 20–November 24. There are two mandatory training sessions, on 9/29 and 10/6, from 10:00–11:30am.
  2. Current or former Sunset Park resident? Volunteer as a weekend guide for Sunset Park Through the Lens at MADE Bush Terminal, a collaboration between the NARS Foundation and Center for Family Life. The exhibition runs October 3–31, and scheduling is somewhat flexible. Volunteers would help guide families through the exhibition and share the history of Sunset Park through their own personal experiences and memories.
