The ACVA Comet Equinox Edition, March 2022

American College of Vedic Astrology

Message from the President of ACVA

Hello, fellow lovers of Jyotisha – students, alumni, and friends.

Hope this finds you and your families doing well enough in these strange times.

According to what I understand about Jupiter’s tenancy in Aquarius, at the time of this message – it is incumbent on each of us, individually, to remember to manage our thoughts. Although the value of practicing this principle might be self-evident, the importance of intentionally choosing positive, creative, life-affirming thoughts is especially crucial in these times of conflict. The cumulative effect of these independent thoughts of good-will to all, when consistently practiced, does have an effect on the outcome. In this particular case, in the outcome of what happens to the autonomy of Ukraine.

Charlotte Benson (Jyoti Devi)

President, American College of Vedic Astrology

The Observatory

by Lynn Bootes

Registrar and Instructor, ACVA

Dear Readers,

This season you will see a number of changes in how the COMET presents the sky changes of the season ahead. We continue our work as a teaching institution for those dedicated to learning Jyotish. We always welcome serious inquiries from potential students.

View the beautiful images of sky changes in the GOLA column by Leadership Team member Julene Louis. Gola means Astronomy in Sanskrit, the language of Jyotish.

The Star Guidance column is now called The Observatory. See the dates of important sky events at a glance as you examine Jyotish charts.

If you are new to astrology, you may not quite appreciate how unusual it is to have Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Rahu and Ketu all change signs in the same month. Charlotte Benson reflects in her letter on how tightly all these planets are grouped with the inner planets Mercury, Venus and Mars, as well as Sun and Moon at the time of the Pisces New Moon in early April. This is clearly a unique and momentous time in the story of our world.

We are a world-wide organization. While it is Spring north of the Equator, it is now Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere – hence this is the “Equinox Edition.”

Gola – Spring 2022

By Julene Louis,

Jyotish Visharada, ISAR-CAP

Gola is the observational astronomy limb of Jyotish. This spring we can observe Shani, Guru, Mangala and Shukra in the morning sky before sunrise. Budha, whose cycle around Surya is 88 days will make both an evening and morning appearance this spring. Chandra’s 27.5-day cycle through the zodiac provides opportunities to witness conjunctions with each visible graha every month. Go out and locate the grahas in the night sky as they travel through rashis and pass the primary stars of nakshatras. Observe and commune with them in their heavenly positions and experience a vast level of Seeing, beyond charts on a computer screen, that deepens your understanding and practice of Jyotish.
