Message from NETS' Executive Director,
Susan Hipp

I read this statement the other day that someone (thanks for the inspiration, Matt, if you’re reading this!) posted:
Whether it's in your personal life or work, it's important to continue to challenge yourself.
His challenge was a personal one—climbing to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which he proudly accomplished.
We all have challenges we face, both personal and professional. The question is what do we do with those challenges? And how do we use them to improve ourselves rather than knock us down?
A challenge can be like an oyster with a little piece of sand in its shell—an annoyance, an unwanted intruder, an uncomfortable accessory—which is then turned into a beautiful pearl. The challenge can bring about a new and magnificent end result.
Do you have professional challenges with your fleet safety program? Do you have drivers who aren’t on board with new policies? Do you have drivers who need encouragement to change their driving behaviors? Do you need new technology or better rated fleet vehicles but aren’t sure what in order to keep your drivers safe?
I have one more professional challenge for you: join us at NETS Annual Strength IN Numbers Fleet Safety Benchmark Conference to address these challenges and more by increasing your knowledge, learning new practices, sharing ideas, finding out about new technology, and discovering ways to improve your fleet safety program and keep your drivers safe. This is one of the only conferences focused exclusively on fleet safety and is attended by:
· Fleet safety leaders;
· Risk management associates;
· Fleet procurement professionals;
· Road safety consultants;
· Government and State Highway Safety personnel;
· Fleet safety vendors; and,
· Academia and non-profit fleet safety experts
with whom you can network and find out ways to address your challenges!
In addition, NEW! this year you can take advantage of the opportunity to earn CEUs or recertification credits by signing up for a multitude of Professional Development Seminars, all geared to help you address your fleet safety program challenges from Defensive Driving, to Risk Assessment, to Leveraging Technology for SIF prevention. A complete list can be found here: 2024 Conference Professional Development – Network of Employers for Traffic Safety
We will be in Atlanta from October 8-11. I challenge you to Join Us in the Peach State! #TogetherOnTheSweetRoadOfSafety
May you always face your challenges and turn them into pearls.

The Two-Pronged Approach to Driver Safety Management Programs
|
Every fleet manager worth their salt recognizes that a driver safety focus is foundational to the operational, financial, and reputational health of their organization. And with the National Safety Council’s preliminary estimate of 44,450 motor vehicle fatalities in 2023 – and at least 50 fleet driver casualties annually between 2012 and 2021 – building a culture of safety just makes sense.
