Keep Us Restless

God, we give you thanks for the life that we have found. For the holy surprises that have shaken us awake when life has felt damp and lethargic. For some of us feel as though we are people waiting in darkness. Life, it turns out, has often not thought to follow the trajectory that we would have set for it. Dreams delayed. Security withheld. Time, too short.

Holy Spirit, set us ablaze with purpose. Crown the desires of our hearts that our yearning might always be pointed, in hope, towards you. And even when we must wait, when the fantasies of our futures don’t come to fruition, we ask that we might be kept restless. That even in our waiting, in our hoping, in our frustration, and in our doubts, that we might be transformed by that for which we yearn.

-Rev. Chris Palmer, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church

Summer Park Sunday

The Spiritual Formation Committee invites people of all ages to meet up at Audubon Park Playground (Walnut Street side) this Sunday, June 22 for fellowship and fun. We will meet from 4:00-5:30 p.m. to sit and chat, play on the playground, or go for a walk around the park with others! BYOB and snacks. Email Katie Brendler with any questions. Future dates will be July 20 at Danneel Playground and August 17 at Alma Peters Park.

Hymn Sing and Snowballs

Join us for a service of hymns this Sunday, June 22, at 6 p.m. in the Land Building. Bring your hymn requests! All ages are welcome. Afterwards at 7 p.m., we will enjoy snowballs and fellowship on the Land Building patio.

Congratulations, Donald!

This Saturday marks Donald Jefferson's 30th anniversary as sexton at SCAPC! We will be recognizing Donald during the 9:30 service this Sunday morning. Please join us in thanking Donald for his excellent service to our church.

Kinship Center

Kinship Center, formerly the Uptown Shepherd Center, was founded in 1977 by eight uptown churches. Their mission was to dedicate services for underserved seniors with an emphasis on providing transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping. Kinship's 14-passenger van is vital to the continuance of this mission.

There are many ways to volunteer for and donate to Kinship:

  • Community/corporate partnerships
  • Student service hours
  • Raffle items for June 26 "Trivia for Charity" at the Rusty Nail 6-8 p.m.*
  • Leaders for craft classes or special projects of the volunteer's choosing, i.e. sharing a talent that you enjoy
  • Help with thank-you notes
  • Gift Certificates to local shops, restaurants, or grocery stores

For further info or to sign up to volunteer, email kinshipnola@gmail.com.

*Join Kinship for a night of trivia filled with friends, fun, and raffle prizes at the Rusty Nail, 1100 Constance Street! The cost is $10/person for trivia and $5/raffle ticket. Visit givebutter.com/kinshiptrivia for tickets.
