Mission Week 2026
Our Youth had a great time being together and serving the greater community during Mission Week 2026 (July 12-17). The week kicked off with making Bede Bags on Sunday afternoon and then handing them out in the local community. Then, over the next four days, our Youth spent time serving at The Atlanta Community Food Bank, Project Open Hand, StandUp for Kids, and NETWorks Food Pantry. The week wrapped up with a lock-in at St. Bede's on Thursday night that included karaoke, movies, pizza, and games.
Thanks to all who participated!

Popcorn Theology
Saturday, August 1, 2026
5:30 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.
"Rental Family"
Join us to share a simple meal that will include pizza, salad, fresh fruit, popcorn, and homemade cookies. There will be dairy free, gluten free and vegetarian options available. After dinner, we'll watch this 2025 film, rated PG-13, 110 minutes.
This is a clever, heartwarming and thoughtful comedy-drama set in modern Tokyo. Phillip ( Academy Award winning actor Brendan Fraser) is a lonely, loveably awkward American actor who is struggling to find purpose in his life. He lands an unusual acting gig with a Japanese agency to play stand-in roles for people who are strangers to him. As he immerses himself in his clients' lives, he begins to form genuine bonds with his clients, blurring the lines between a "performance" and reality. He begins to wake up to the moral complexities of his work, rediscovers his purpose in life, and finds and is found by belonging and the quiet beauty in human connection.
Following the movie, we'll have a brief conversation about where we saw and heard transformation, healing, God and Love in the movie, along with ways in which our lives connect with the story in the film. We'll end our time together with Night Prayer.
A $10.00 contribution is requested for the meal, or whatever amount works for you.

Music Transition Update
Thank you to everyone who joined in celebrating the amazingly full and beautiful ministry of John Whitt with us last Sunday. If you could not join us, you can watch that celebration here.
This Sunday, we will take the next step in out Music Ministry Transition process as we welcome Randy Roberson as our supply organist for the next several Sundays.
Randy was born and raised in Valdosta, Georgia and began playing the piano as a young child when his parents purchased an upright at a yard sale for $100. In college, he accompanied musical theatre productions and the university choir, and he served as an accompanist at St. James United Methodist Church in Atlanta. After moving to Maryland, he became director of music and organist at Woodside United Methodist Church and later served as associate director of music at Silver Spring United Methodist Church. Most recently, Randy served as interim director of music at Dumbarton United Methodist Church in Washington, DC. He has a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in music from Oglethorpe University and a master’s degree from the University of Maryland School of Public Policy. His career has focused on higher education administration, and he currently works for a national higher education membership association.
In addition to all of that - Randy has the distinction of being the person who introduced Chad & Amanda Vaughn to each other and was a groomsman at their wedding.
Randy will be with us while we secure an Interim Organist & Choirmaster to lead us through an interim period as we have a formal search for a new Organist & Choirmaster.
Also - on Sunday, August 16 - our Youth and Folk Instrumentalist will lead us in a special Sunday or some less formal worship music - in the style of some of the wonderful songs shared and sung at Camp Mikell.
We have also prepared a "Music Transition FAQ" document (linked below) to help answer some of the preliminary questions concerning the Music Ministry Transition.

A "Purse" or "Love Offering" for John
Amongst the ways that we will offer thanks to John for his long tenure and ministry with us is by collecting a "purse" or "love offering" in thanksgiving for John. You may contribute by designating a gift of cash or a check and placing it in the Sunday collection or dropping it off in the office. You may also make an online gift through Realm by clicking on the link below and choosing "John Whitt's Purse" from the fund list - now located below the amount field.
Please note that the deadline to contribute to the purse for John will be Sunday, August 2.

ART FROM THE HEART GALLERY NEWS
Our third "Art From the Heart Gallery" show has ended. Thank you to all who helped make it a success! Our next official show will be installed on August 13 and 14 and our Opening Reception will be held on August 15. Put that date on your calendars and plan to attend. Details will follow as we get closer to that date.
In the interim we are trying something new. We have invited the artists on the AFTH Gallery Committee, and a few others who helped with the organization and events, to display some of their work before our next show. Each of those artists will have their own space on the walls, and each work will have its own description placed beside it. Contact information for the artists will be included and anyone wishing to purchase a piece can do so directly through the artist. The artist will be asked for the 20% commission for all sales. If a piece is purchased, the buyer can take it home immediately. This is an experiment and we will see how it goes!

And we will pray together.
Some questions to consider:
How are you doing, and what are you feeling?
Where are you in terms of processing changing public policy?
How can we live the values of our faith

New Digital Assisted Listening System
for St. Bede's Nave
Thanks to a a generous grant, we have upgraded our Nave sound system with a new digital assisted listening server. This digital server will stream the Nave audio directly to your smartphone and, from there, it can be delivered through wired headphones, Bluetooth devices, or, if you have smart phone enabled hearing aids, the audio can be streamed directly into the hearing aids. Our hope is that this system can improve speech intelligibility for any who have a difficult time hearing or understanding the spoken word in the Nave.
The FIRST STEP to use the new system is download the "ListenWIFI" app onto your smartphone by clicking on one of the links below. The app is free and does not require any type of registration or password (thank goodness!). The app will not work until you are at St. Bede's and connected to our Wi-Fi network.
The SECOND STEP is to arrive at St. Bede's and connect to the new "St. Bede's - Guest" Wi-Fi network which is an open network that requires no password (thank goodness, again!). The system will not work if you connect to the old "stbedes" password protected network.
Please let us know if you need help connecting!

The Summer Singers of Atlanta present Arthur Honeggar's KING DAVID
Sunday, August 2
Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church
on the campus of Emory University
4:00 - 5:30 pm
KING DAVID is a highly dramatic work, performed with choir, chamber winds, percussion, piano, organ, a narrator & distinguished soloists.
A rarely performed masterwork, KING DAVID is by French composer Arthur Honegger (1892-1955). Sung in English, the work is highly dramatic and features a narrator, soprano, alto, and tenor soloists, as well as movements for mixed, treble, and tenor-bass choirs. The famous final chorus, "And God Said One Day Shall Dawn" brings some of the most majestic music of the early 20th century!
Our own Ella Rich will be part of this production! Click below for more information.
