Framing Tip - 🖼..🖼..🖼..
What is conservation framing and why is it important?

Custom framing is the best way to display your art and memorabilia.

Conservation framing —also called "archival framing" or "preservation framing"—aims to prevent damage to your art work. Every aspect of the framing process is designed to protect the art long term. Our goal is to be able to remove your art as it was when it was brought in to us.

When framing art and things that are special to you it is important to use the most archival materials available. These items range from mulberry paper and rice starch which have a perfect ph balance so that it won't burn your art work, to mylar or even sometimes tulle from the fabric store.

We also sew items using thread, steel, wire, fishing line, and sometimes leather when mounting items to our acid free matboards. This ensures a sturdy hold without damaging items that are being mounted. We also sometimes use items called mighty mounts, which are specialty made acrylic holders made for holding specific items like knives, coins or other commonly framed items.

Here at Frame of Mind we always start with archival materials as our base materials. This includes all backing materials, matboards, and making sure we use uv protective glass. No matter what the project, we will always use these archival materials on your project, guaranteed.

Another thing we always look out for, is that your artwork won't be touching the glass. Some people think this might help flatten a piece of wrinkled art, but trust us, this is a big no no in the archival framing business. Artwork that touches glass has a high chance of eventually adhering to the glass permanently due to the change in temperatures and humidity in our state.
That is why we will either use a matboard between your art and the glass, or what is called a spacer, which is a piece of thin acrylic that hides behind the lip of the frame that sits between your artwork and the glass, making sure that your art stays safe and clear from the glass.

Do you have something special to you that needs to be framed?
Come on in and talk with one of our experienced and knowledgeable archival framing designers. We would love to see what we can create for you!

September with Ani Eastwood
Ani Eastwood is 4th generation Montanan who specializes in Original Oils and Giclee Reproductions of Wild and Scenic landscapes in Montana and the southwest. She offers a variety of handmade and framed mountain landscapes with an impressionistic touch and will be featuring some new original fall works this September.

She hopes her artwork brings the landscapes we all love into people's intimate spaces and always remind us of the value of our national parks and open landscapes. Her pieces are not just landscapes, but usually also have a narrative, surreal quality, trying to express the underlying feelings that affect us all seasonally and in different life stages with limited palettes and imagery.

She also works to a break and test boundaries of how we all envision traditional giclee printing, such as finding new ways to embellish prints, and paint outside the lines.
In addition, 5% of Ani's sales from her work is donated to the National Forest Foundation each year to hopefully secure our wild and scenic landscapes for future generations.
Ani's works of art will be on display til September 27th, stop on by and take a look at these beautiful pieces.
