When Dr. Jodi L. Falk joined St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf years ago she had a vision; to make SFDS a center of excellence in serving Deaf, DeafBlind and Deaf Disabled children and their families. In pursuit of this vision, SFDS has committed to become a model school with a highly specialized staff and a state of the art- universally designed facility.

We are proud to announce the completion of two major projects that aid in our overall vision:

New Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Room

With the generous support of grant money, we’ve recently opened our new ADL room. This space simulates a real apartment, complete with a fully equipped kitchen, cozy living room, laundry area, and comfortable bedroom.

Our dedicated staff and teachers are using this realistic setup to help students master essential daily living skills tailored to their IEP.

New State of the Art Playground

Additionally, thanks to the generosity of Mother Cabrini and other benefactors, our playground has undergone a significant transformation.

This five-year journey has culminated in a playground that features newly paved asphalt, vibrant murals, and state-of-the-art equipment.

We sought grants and partnered with Deaf creatives like Ryan Seslow to bring this vision to life. Our new playground is designed to be accessible and engaging for all our students.

AAPI and Mental Health Awareness Month

As we celebrate these milestones, we also recognize the importance of AAPI Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month.

These observances remind us of the rich diversity within our community and the critical need to support mental health and well-being for all. Throughout the month we have shared resources and highlighted community members on our social media pages.
