Republicans win all three Ohio Supreme Court races, increasing hold over court to 6-1


Ohio Republicans have tightened their grip on the Ohio Supreme Court from 4-3 to 6-1 by ousting two incumbent Democratic justices and winning a third, open seat, the Associated Press projects based on unofficial results. Results remain unofficial until they are certified by local county boards of elections and the Ohio Secretary of State.The Ohio Supreme Court will rule on a variety of issues that affect the daily lives of Ohioans ranging from education and environmental issues to gerrymandering and elections to civil and reproductive rights.

Democrats hoped Harris would rescue them. On Wednesday, she called Trump to concede


Kamala Harris called President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to concede the election and congratulate him on his victory, according to a senior adviser to the vice president. The aide, who declined to be identified discussing a private conversation, said Harris talked about the need for a peaceful transfer of power. Harris, once viewed as a potential savior for the Democratic Party after Joe Biden 's reelection campaign stalled, is reckoning with a profound rejection by American voters in this year's presidential election.

Republican Max Miller wins reelection to U.S. House in Ohio's 7th Congressional District


Republican Rep. Max Miller of Rocky River won reelection to a U.S. House seat representing Ohio on Tuesday. Miller prevailed in a three-way race with ex-Rep. Dennis Kucinich and two-time Democratic challenger Matthew Diemer. Kucinich served as a Democrat in the House for 18 years and twice ran for president. This year, he ran as an independent. His campaign for the Republican-leaning 7th Congressional District lacked momentum or significant financial support.

Weinstein elected to present Senate District 28


After winning his bid to represent U.S. Senate District 28 in the Nov. 5 general election, current Rep. Casey Weinstein, D-Hudson, plans to approach his next term with a “community-focused” attitude.

Weinstein won with 88,575 votes, or 55.9%, defeating Republican Jon Leissler, who received 69,977 votes, or 44.1%, according to final, unofficial results from the Ohio Secretary of State website. Weinstein told the Cleveland Jewish News on Nov. 6 it is “an incredible honor” to have voters' trust and confidence.

Exit polls suggest large Trump gains with NY Jewish voters, but not rest of the country


U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s landslide victory on Tuesday points to significant gains for the Republican among New York-area Jewish voters. The Fox News exit poll of 4,235 New Yorkers showed that among the 8% of respondents who identified as Jewish, 46% backed the former president over Vice President Kamala Harris, who received the other 54%. In the same exit poll in 2020, Trump garnered 37% of the state’s Jewish vote, compared to President Joe Biden’s 63%.

Rescuers pull 30 bodies from a building in central Lebanon hit in an Israeli strike


Lebanese rescuers pulled 30 bodies out of the rubble after a late-night Israeli strike on an apartment building in the town of Barja, Lebanon’s Civil Defense service said Wednesday as the Mideast wars press on with no signs of abating. It remained unclear if there were any survivors or bodies still trapped under the debris following the Tuesday night airstrike, which came without warning. There was no statement from the Israeli military and the strike's intended target also was unknown.
