2026 Provincial Election Priorities

WHAT WE HEARD

PARTY & CANDIDATE RESPONSES

Four priorities. An invitation to every provincial candidate. Here’s what we’ve heard.

From motorcycle touring on scenic highways to snowmobiling and off-road recreation, powersports supports businesses, skilled jobs, tourism and communities throughout British Columbia.

Provincial decisions influence where people can ride, how they access training and licensing, and whether businesses and recreation users can plan with confidence.

The BC Powersports Dealers Association (BCPDA) invited all provincial candidates to respond to four election priorities. We are sharing their responses to help our members and the broader powersports community understand the positions and commitments being offered.

Four priorities. Four questions.

1. Implement and fund the Outdoor Recreation Strategy

A provincial strategy needs clear leadership, stable funding and an implementation plan. On-road motorcycle touring and off-road motorized recreation should be recognized within BC’s recreation, tourism and economic development priorities.

We asked: Will you support a dedicated, funded implementation plan for the Outdoor Recreation Strategy that formally recognizes powersports and motorized recreation?

2. Establish the Road to Recreation Working Group

Forest Service Roads connect communities, businesses and riders to recreation destinations. Their continuing public value should be assessed before roads are deactivated or bridges removed, with practical options to retain suitable routes for recreation.

We asked: Will you support establishing a Road to Recreation Working Group and requiring an assessment before high-value Forest Service Roads are closed or deactivated?

3. Modernize licensing and educate all drivers

Effective rider training, practical licensing and stronger motorcycle awareness among all drivers can work together to improve safety. Three-wheel motorcycles also need an appropriate training and testing pathway.

We asked: Will you support evidence-based motorcycle licensing, approved rider training and stronger motorcycle-awareness education for all drivers?

4. Develop wildfire restriction policies together

Protecting communities and responders is essential. Industry and recreation organizations can help develop effective restrictions supported by regional evidence, clear communication and defined review and reopening procedures.

We asked: Will you support a standing wildfire working group with BCPDA and recreation organizations to develop evidence-based closure, communication, review and reopening protocols?

Related priorities: what BCSF heard

The BC Snowmobile Federation (BCSF) also invited political parties and candidates to respond to questions about backcountry access, recreation funding, participation in land-use decisions and recreation’s role in rural communities.

These issues overlap with BCPDA’s work to protect access and strengthen recognition of the outdoor economy. BCSF’s published responses provide additional context for members interested in the future of motorized recreation.

Read BCSF’s election priorities and responses.

Responses provided to BCSF address its questions. They do not establish a candidate’s or party’s position on BCPDA’s specific motorcycle licensing and wildfire policy requests.

Keep the conversation going

Ask candidates how they would advance these priorities in your community.

After the election, BCPDA will continue working with elected representatives to advance practical action on recreation investment, access, motorcycle safety and wildfire policies.

Candidates can submit their responses to info@bcpowersportsdealers.com. This page will be updated as responses are received.
