Thirsty
The word “thirsty” is defined as being parched, dry, or dehydrated. Prolonged dehydration can affect our concentration, influence our mood, and lead to serious health complications.
The cure? Drink enough water!
Have you ever watched a dog drink out of the toilet simply because it’s wet? It doesn’t care whether the water is clean or safe. It’s thirsty, and it wants a drink!
Sadly, that’s a picture of our world today. People are desperate to quench their thirst and satisfy their dried-up souls. They believe satisfaction comes from possessions, pleasures, and countless other things. They drink from the world’s cesspools, only to discover that their thirst returns.
This is proof that our bodies aren’t the only things that can become thirsty. Our souls can become thirsty too.
Jesus spoke of a different kind of thirst: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness…” (Matthew 5:6)
Righteousness is being in a right relationship with God and seeking to live in a way that pleases Him. But the world has no interest in being righteous.
Sadly, Christians can become spiritually dehydrated as well! We can attend church and go through the motions of our faith while our hearts become dry. We can be so occupied with daily living that we neglect the very One who gives us life.
Don’t let yourself become a dried-up Christian!
Our spirits have been washed by the blood of Christ – praise God! However, our souls need a bath every day. This comes by reading and meditating on His Word on a daily basis.
Jesus boldly declared in the John 7:37–38 (Msg):
“On the final and climactic day of the Feast, Jesus took his stand. He cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Rivers of living water will brim and spill out of the depths of anyone who believes in me this way, just as the Scripture says.”
What a beautiful promise! Jesus quenches everything!
To me, this means I can be washed from the inside with God’s grace and then have it overflow into the lives of others.
So, let me ask you: How thirsty is your soul?
Listen… Jesus is calling you. He is begging you to come to the quiet waters -- drink deeply -- and refresh others.
Blessings,
Pastor Sue
