Relay for Life is TONIGHT!

Stand with us in the fight against cancer tonight, from 6-10 p.m. at North Atlanta High School as we participate in Relay for Life, a fundraising event to honor and remember loved ones and take action in the fight against cancer.

At Relay For Life, you'll join our APS family as we take turns walking around a track lined with luminaria bags and cheer for local survivors and caregivers of cancer patients (currently or previously diagnosed). Local entertainers will keep you energized.

You can support by walking with us or donating towards the cause. To learn more, register and/or donate, please visit, www.RelayforLife.org/AtlantaGA

Atlanta Public Schools B.O.E. Student Recognition

Back by popular demand, the Atlanta Board of Education’s Special Meeting to recognize APS student achievement took place Monday, May 8 in front of a room full of proud parents, family, faculty and community members at the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Learning and Leadership.

Over the course of the 2022-2023 school year, approximately 950 students exhibited their own unique and exceptional aptitude in the areas of academics, athletics, the arts, and community service.

Thrilled to revitalize the tradition, the Atlanta Board of Education and APS Superintendent Lisa Herring congratulated each student in attendance and awarded them with a personalized proclamation.

WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News reporter Tyisha Fernandes joined in the festivities by serving as the official host and ended the evening by expressing her heartfelt kudos to each deserving student.

APS families, please join us in celebrating these excellent scholars by posting a congratulatory comment on any of our social platforms @apsupdate.

Leaders of Tomorrow
Atlanta Public Schools 2023 Valedictorians, Salutatorians & STAR Students

On May 5, the Oceans Ballroom at the Georgia Aquarium provided the perfect atmosphere to celebrate 34 of the best and brightest of the graduating class of 2023 for their unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

Through the Leaders of Tomorrow luncheon, the Valedictorians, Salutatorians, and STAR Students of APS had a moment to commemorate their achievements with family, faculty, and stakeholders while enjoying lunch and the scenic backdrop of the Beluga Whale Habitat.

Superintendent Lisa N. Herring and Board Chair Eshé P. Collins addressed the audience, as well as WSB-TV Channel 2 News anchor Fred Blankenship, who served as Emcee for the occasion.

In addition to a special video presentation highlighting the force that drives each of the scholars, 16 teachers were honored as STAR teachers for excellence in their inspirational role as educators.

As each student received an engraved medal and a new Hewlett-Packard laptop, the afternoon was rounded out with a special melodic presentation by the North Atlanta Jazz Band.

We encourage you to view the list of this year’s Valedictorians, Salutatorians, and STAR Students and offer your well wishes to them via social media @apsupdate.
