Jimmies
The Jimmies took two games from the Gators last Tuesday. They have now won 7 in a row and remain in sole possession of second place in the league standings with 4 games left in the regular season. Off to a slow start in the first game, the offense led by 3 hits each from Mark Bradcovich, Joe Ferrara and
Tommy Boggs, finally started clicking as the Jimmies rolled to a 15 to 4 victory. Pitcher Merl Baldwin kept the Gator bats in check to secure the win. The entire line-up produced as they cruised 21 to 1 in the second game. Steve Tien, Kevin Lynch and Joe Ferrara had multiple hits to pace the offense. Roger Albizu picked up another win on the mound allowing only one walk and one earned run. The double-header sweep improved the Jimmies’ record to
17 wins and 5 losses.
Next Tuesday at 9:00, Winding River comes to Smithville. They are currently tied for 5th place with a 9 and 12 record and as always will be looking to knock off the Jimmies.

The St. James Pickleball Association (SJPA) kicked off the Summer FUN League on a beautiful Tuesday evening at the Rymer Courts. We had 40 players who made up four mixed teams of players rated 2.5 or 3.0. With 8 courts and 6 rounds of play, each team played a total of 32 games in 1 ½ hours. The teams were led by Captains Holly Ahrens - Blue Team, Rosemary Reinis – White Team, Barbara Shanley – Red Team and Mark Thuer – Gray Team. The emphasis was on fun with some friendly competition thrown in. The Blue Team prevailed this week. Scoring averaged between 8 and 9 points each match. Interestingly, the Gray and White Teams had two matches that ended in ties. The event ended with a raffle. Prizes were won by Kathleen Schlobolm/Holly Ahrens and Beth Serepca.
Thanks to everyone who played and everyone who helped coordinate and set-up the event.
There are 3 more weeks of play on Tuesday nights during June from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Come on out and watch some FUN Pickleball.
Links can also be found on the SJPA website here.
